General Q - H7 replacement

Featured Replies

Hi,

As the darker nights appeared, I grew very disappointed with the dipped headlights on my C220. They are an H7 bulb, like many of the Skoda range, and I bought some Ring 150 bulbs which claim “150% more light and more range”.

I can honestly say I can’t notice the slightest- and I mean the smallest - difference. Frankly I’m fed up. I know that putting in HID kits is a contentious subject, but surely there must be an actual H7 replacement that makes a real difference? An LED bulb has to take less current than a halogen, so surely that must be an option?

cheers

I know how you feel.  I’ve never been satisfied with a bulb uprate either.

All H7 bulbs are made to the same spec. If I remember correctly, they should be about 1550lm +/- 10% or something similar.

Performance bulbs don't tend to produce any extra light but instead have a smaller hot spot. Some headlight designs work better with the smaller hot spot which is where the up to % better claims come from.

LED drop in replacements tend to perform worse then halogen bulbs. They are also not road legal just like xenon/HID drop in replacements.

Was just about to ask the same question.

Need some replacement H7 bulbs for my Fiesta.

N% brighter refers to specific points at a specific range in a reference reflector design. It has naff all to do with range. Simple consideration of the inverse square law tells me that, if a "normal H7 bulb" has a range of 100m, a "150% brighter" bulb will offer =sqrt(150) per cent extra range, say 12%, which means that your 100m becomes a whole 112m!
