Coding required for Virtual Cockpit

Featured Replies

Was hoping someone could definitively answer some questions for me and perhaps point me in the right direction. Based in New Zealand so hopefully will find some locals who can help too.

I ordered my MY19 Octavia Wagon RS245 before the official Spec Sheet came out; so it wasnt ordered with a Virtual Cockpit. I have been back to the Dealer and they say its "impossible" to fit it as a "dealer option" and would have to have been done at the factory. Im allowed to cancel my order and re-order but then the car will only have a delivery ETA in May 2019.

I have managed to dig into the details on erWIN and Partslink to find the exact part as well as ensuring the pre-requisites are in place (eg. Columbus Nav etc.)

So the part I will need is the 5G1 920 791 A; no problem I have been able to source a new one. The fitment as per the erWIN Manuals is pretty straight forward. The major issues now are:

1) Enabling the Virtual Cockpit (Digital Dash) - Guy in Aus says its a 2 day job, VCDS can't do it and it HAS to be done on ODIS ----- questions, yes/no/probably?

2) From the repair manual there is a note about the immobiliser and key matching; has anyone had any experience with this? Of course no point in having a new Instrument Cluster and not being able to pair the keys

I have researched A LOT on this particular topic (seeing as though I ordered in July and the car is only due to be delivered mid-December. The parts I'm missing are the one's about actually making it work. Its not (in my mind) technically a retrofit because the car is already available with the option.

Any assistance, guidance would be MUCH appreciated.

It's been done on the MK7 Golf but it's not trivial and may require other modules coding, updating or even replacing.

The immo will be hard as I doubt many tools support it, you might need to upload datasets to certain modules too. Neither of these can be done with VCDS.

I doubt anyone here has much if any experience so you might be better over on rosstechs forum. Couple of threads:

In all honesty, if you really want it to work properly, I'd reorder the car... Retrofits can be hit and miss when dealing with the very latest cars/modules.
