Rear dampers

Featured Replies

Can the rear dampers top fixing be detached from the body from the wheel arch, without having to strip the rear interior?

It feels like two bolt heads behind the wheel arch liner at the top damper mount might make this an unusually easy operation.

Yes it really is that easy :)

Just two bolts, both accessible from the arch, no interior access required.

I changed mine in next to no time. Shame the fronts aren't so easy!

Thanks for that, unusual to have something as simple as that for a change!

Incidentally, I found the rubber bump stops on mine were crumbling and falling apart - and I believe it's not uncommon.

If you're changing rear dampers I'd suggest changing the stops too.

Stop ragging it round the forests, Jerry!

I'm not changing the dampers, just the crumbly bump stops :giggle:

And yes Graham, it's not NRW land, but Walters. Big programme of work at Walters just started regrading most of the road network. I've also badley ripped my heat shield for the diesel tank, fortunately the tanks was not marked. New heat shield being fitted tomorrow.

Gone to a man in Coventry.
I was offered a RWA 1972 MG Midget by a member of our Club, and it is one of the cars on my bucket list. When SWMBO saw it had doors, windows, and a HEATER...........................
Put the Lomax up for sale immediately and it sold for a good price in a couple of weeks.

It is a lot more practical, and no tax or MOT.
Not perfect, but then I wouldn't want a perfect one, as I use my cars. Done a few jobs already to bring it up to a more usable state and a few more planned.

And SWMBO has named her "Daphne"!

Took my car in today at 08.00 for damper and heat shield work to my favourite Skoda dealer near me. While booking it in, twice I asked if they wanted to have a quick look underneath to see which bit of the shield was required - they said they knew what was wanted - so there.

After lunch today I had a call, to say the damper bump stops had been done, but............................ they ordered the wrong heatshield, and could they keep the car overnight as bits stripped off ready and the right part is coming tomorrow.

Not happy, had words asking if they remembered the conversations we had about checking to see what bits were needed, as they seemed bemused that I might have been under the car out in the road in order to give them a precise description of the part required.

So no car today, and probably most of tomorrow - my MG has most of the interior stripped out replacing the hand brake lever and gaiter to keep the MoT man happy. Not a failure or an advisory, just some friendly "winding up" to keep me on my toes - so no mobile MG. Grrrrr.
