Scout Turbo

Featured Replies

Gutted our 2011 first responder Scout is poorly.  Drove it Thursday was fine no problems at all.  Went out Friday to book on and the glow plug warning light was flashing.  Was taken into local Skoda dealer to have it looked at, has put it on mini machine and state it's turbo.  Cost to fix 1500 for park plus 1000 ish for Labour.  I appreciate it's dealer prices.  They are going to put it on the master machine in the morning.  My machine pointed to actuator so fingers crossed that's what it.  Hopefully they do a repair kit and the costs will come down considerably

I am very dubious about dealers and turbos, too many stories of turbo replacement at great cost when all that was required was a simple internal decoke using Mr Muscle oven cleaner, possibly a strip/clean in the worst cases.

There are posts on here about the procedure and good videos on YouTube, although they may not be specific to your model they will show the same VW engine.

@lmrn1  Welcome to the forum.

How many miles has the car done, and which Dealership has the car gone into?

Have an update.  It's a valve that needs replacing to the tune of 300.00 but need the car on road again so being done tomorrow.

If it's the actuator, you can get one for less than £150 if I remember correctly and change it yourself. It's a bit fiddly to get the bottom but off the threaded bar but you can get a curved spanner to get in. Make sure you check the old one and put the nuts in the same place on the new one.

Check the YouTube videos.

Just noticed your update. Which valve?

£2,500 for a new turbo? :D

I had a new turbo fitted to my Octavia at a main dealer for £1,500 (albeit a good few years ago).

I got a non-dealer quote for around £800.

Fitted, including VAT, and the return of the old turbo was factored in.
