How to replace the DSG gearshift top chromeplastic?

Featured Replies

On my Superb 170bhp DSG TDi i have an annoying problem. The chrome of the DSG gearshift is a bit loose.

On the top it is fine, but in the front, right where the plastic chrome meets the leather it comes off.

I already removed a bit, because there were a few sharp pieces standing off.

Is it possible to remove the top and replace it? Is it screwed somewhere or glued?

How can I remove it safely?

Replacement would be this from Superskoda:

Just pull gently on the top element until it unhooks, start from the front side (that is pointed towards the central console)

Thank you, it worked quite well.

I used my ifixit tools to pry it off.

That leaves me with a spare.

I could remove the chrome completely with electrolysis, then apply some paint. (I will do the same with the light washers)

What would be good looking? my shifter is the same as in the picture above, the plate has the letters DSG on it.

Completely black? Car color is black magic pearl. Would be a bit unnoticeable and too much black?
