Engine vibration at idle - 2.0 TDI 140

Featured Replies

The wife's Octavia has recently developed a nasty vibration when idling (this disappears when a few revs are applied).

I'm thinking worn engine mount/s  any other ideas?

No Inside track on this one?

Most likely the noise is due to brooken DMF.Check if the car producing the noise whilst still engine is cold. If it is always at idle regardless of the Coolant temperature, means a DMF need to be replaced.

Took it out today and it was fine during a 50 mile trip - no vibration - even stood at traffic lights...

I'll keep tabs on it.

(the first time I tried it after the wife said something was wrong with it, it did start to vibrate at idle, just after start up. but also did it when stationary during that journey)

The engine wasn't making any weird noises - just made the cabin shake a bit...

With the engine running, slowly depress and release the clutch. If you hear the sound of pieces of metal being swirled around a metal bucket, that would indicate the DMF has/is failing. I have the 8v 140 2.0PD engine in my Scout and that was the noise I got when mine failed - it was actually delivered like that from the factory.

I sometimes detect a lumpyness with my vehicle, but it comes and goes. Cannot recall if it is only during cold weather or not, but I did get it last week for the first time in ages so it may be down to winter diesel or just the cold weather.

Fat fingers

It's a clear sign for DMF wear! Especially mentioned that cabin shakes a bit.The good news is that you can drive the car for a long time like this ,waiting for a clutch to worn out too     Don't know the mileage  of the car but it will be a good idea to check  an "injection deviation quantity" of all cylinders by VCDS(just for reference only).Since it may cause a slight vibrations as well!

At this short mileage ,makes no sense to check "injection deviation quantity" . Is quite early for it

oops - 82500 miles, how time flies.

Behaved well today, 50 miles of rural A and B roads and no sign of the vibration either when driving or stationary at idle (in gear clutch in and in neutral).  Will keep tabs on it...
