Hi. I have a 15 plate Yeti SE with auto headlights and have a question about the switch. When set to auto and no lights required just the auto light illuminates on the switch. When the auto headlights come on the auto position lights plus the light to the right (sidelights) comes on. If I use normal headlights only the small sidelight icon illuminates. Should the icon on the far right which is manual headlights illuminate?? My Passat all three light up on auto headlights and on manual the sidelights and headlight icon light up. The dealer wasn’t sure. I have a feeling that the light behind the switch may be faulty but if someone can confirm that would be great

Without going out and testing each setting again, my car does something like this on auto... I think the sidelights or off section is brighter then others and I think this is to initially illuminate the switch to make it easier to see at night, a bit like low lights in the window switches. They are nowhere near as bright as dash lights, etc. Just enough to be easily spotted at night.

My car is an older Fabia but I installed an auto light switch and sensor a couple of years ago and I believe the switch originates from a Yeti.

Many aftermarket ones are red, VW based switches although they are now easier to find in Skoda Green.

No is the short answer.  Your switch is behaving normally and the same as everyone else’s (it has been discussed at length before).

Thanks for clearing this up. I was comparing to my Passat Gt estate.

My 15 plate Elegance behaves like yours..... but IIRC  on my previous Yeti,  a 13 plate  pre-facelift 1.6 Greenline,  the headlight symbol on the switch used to light.... as did a symbol on the instrument cluster,  which is not present on the facelifts.  However,  my Greenline was an SE and did not have the biXenons,  so may have been wired differently.

My 2012 pre-FL with halogens behaved as the OP’s did, along with the dash light.  My 2013 Audi A1 with similar switchgear was the same.

Whatever setting I'm using, my auto light position does not light up, the only indication I get is the sidelight position illuminated. Just tried it again to be sure.

I find the easiest thing to look at internally to check whether the lights are on are the submarine lights by the rear view mirror.

Don't got them, they are disabled in Yeti's with the panoramic roof.

Where my auto lights position lights up all the time and when the headlights come on the light to the right illuminates. Auto goes off only when the lights are in the off position or when i use manual headlight position

Worry not, a fairly sharp rap on the switch and all is now working as it should. Percussive maintenance is not a thing of the past.
