fuse board octavia se-l mk3

Featured Replies

I piggy backed front dashcam into same socket on fuse board as the permanent power to the socket on centre console, cam works fine but now no power to console socket'

at the same time i piggy backed the rear dashcam to the start- stop fuse socket, rear dashcam works fine but start-stop doesn't work anymore. I'm wodering if in pushing fuse

back in it's done something to connection at the rear of fuse panel (possibly pushed a connection out), Only way to find out is remove fuse board which I don't  really fancy doing

but I cant think of anything else. Does anyone know how to remove the board or even better, think of something else that might be the problem.

@evadsIm going to ask the obvious question (apologies if you have checked this) but you do have 2 fuses inserted into the piggy back cable?  If so have you tried taking the piggyback out and putting the fuse back in as normal?

tried that, even though the fuse's where ok as a double check I even tried fitting new fuse's just to make sure. I can't help wondering if in pushing fuses in has it pushed a connection out of the back of the board but logic tells me if that were the case then the dash cam wouldn't work.

The fuse will be in the live part of the circuit with the sockets etc being grounded elsewhere. One side of the fuse terminal will be from the battery, the other side goes to the socket and will be dead until a fuse is inserted.

It is possible for the non live side to push out, it wouldnt affect 12v being supplied to the live side of the fusebox.

Do you have a mulitmeter or voltage tester? If you do, then you should check for continuity between the outgoing side of the fuse and the internals of the 12v socket. One side of the 12v socket should be short circuit to the fuse holder, the other side should be short circuit to the ground of the car. If there is no short circuit to the fuse holder then it is possible the pins have been pushed out, or there is another fuse inline with the 12v socket that has gone. Unlikely there would be another fuse but then again unlikely that you could push out both parts of 2 circuits on the back of the fuse box.

To be honest if that has happened then I dont think you are entirelyto blame, you should be able to change a fuse without the holder failing.

Good luck

This sounds silly even before I type it.   At the risk of ridicule I will carry on!  Someone once explained to me that there is a right way and a wrong way to insert piggy-back fuses. They explained why and it made perfect sense at the time.  Unfortunately I cannot remember what was said!  However, try changing the orientation of the piggy-back, end to end -  it may just work.

I’d doubt you’ve been able to push out a terminal from the fuse block, there’s 4 spring loaded tabs and a TPA wedge (Terminal Position Assurance)

Thanks to all for advice. the problem has now been rectified,  a friend of a friend he didn't go into any detail on what the fault was but whatever he did everything works except the

auto headlights don't switch from dip to main.
