Wheels and tires for winter

Featured Replies

Hello!

I'm new here, just joined the Skoda owner community and this Forum, which I have would very useful when looking for some insights about Skodas before buying mine.

What I bought myself is a 2011 Skoda Octavia RS Estate TDI (out the factory 30.11.2010, first registration- early 2011).

The car currently sits on 18' Alloy wheels 7.5J and has 225/40 R18 92Y xl Hankook summer tires on them. At the moment it's travelling on a trailer from the seller in Germany and is going to be in Riga this Sunday.

What I need is a set of winter tires and wheels on it. I don't think putting winter tires on the original 18' wheels is a good idea, so I started looking for other options, that also won't brake the bank.

The question is - what size, depth, etc of wheels can I use. What I know so far is that I have to use 5x112 skrews. Called Skoda dealer, they said it looks like only 18' alloys fit. Anything smaller should be steel wheels. He pretty much said, the only option for winter is a J6.5x16H2 ET50 steel rim

Wheel-size.com gives me this:

225/45ZR17 91W 7Jx17 ET54 5x112 2.5
225/40ZR18 91W 7.5Jx18 ET51 5x112 2.5

Is there a good place to find that out?

Then there are other sites that state that 16' alloys would fit too. I am overwhelmed with conflicting information and confused about what should I go for.

Hope someone can help me out here.

Car specs:

2.0 TDI

170 ps

125 kW

Pretty much unanswerable without knowing what brakes your new car has. What I'm fairly sure of is that a VAG wheel design will at least potentially fit with a 1" smaller diameter than any other alloy.

Yeah, makes sense. I am not sure, though.

In the equipment list it says:

1KT Brake type in rear: Disc brakes in rear (Geomet D)

1ZB Brake type, front: Disc brake in front

Added a photo of them, maybe it helps?

I have 16" wheels on my VRS 170. Tyres are 205x55x16.

Hello! Thanks for the insight. Do you know any other metrics of the setup you use (J number, ET value (offset))? I’m being said those are quite important too

Pretty sure a stock 16" tyre/alloy combo will be 205/55 R16 on a 6.5Jx16 ET50. It'll be a 5x112 PCD and 57mm centre bore.

Original alloy should fit over the 312mm brakes without issue, I'd suggest you check aftermarket ones to be sure.

Sorry, I can't remember the other settings. I have 16" alloys on now, initially I had a set of 16" steel wheels from a VW Transporter T4.

Kumho winter tyres. Can't fault them and transforms the car (on a Fabia)!
