The touch screen does not respond until the car has run  for a bit . Can I do a strait swop or upgrad to the Columbus or will it need coding I have a 2014 Octavia . And trying to program a destination with voice control is pants 

Can’t answer your question regarding the touch screen not responding, but swapping to Columbus or any other head unit requires component protection removal and coding outside the dealer network to make it work.

It's probably a faulty touchscreen, not uncommon especially on earlier MIB1 units. They don't like low winter temperatures but when the cabin (and the screen) starts heating up they work again.

Yes you have hit the nail on the head made a trip of 50 miles and it was fine when I got there . But no good when trying to enter destination before leaving

Dealers can do CP removal, but can’t do nav coding. The OEM software won’t allow it.

I’m looking for the easiest route if I deside to change it . Without having to re code it . There’s one on eBay says is a straight swop but £499 as he’s changed it so it will work

I would consider just replacing the screen? My screen didn’t have the issue described, buy one off eBay from a reputable breakers yard, if it has the same fault return it. You won’t spend more than £100 on a replacement screen.

Thanks I nerver  thought about just getting a screen . I was looking for a compleat unit at the right price . But would like to see if it responds first

Dont get me wrong, an upgrade to MIB 2 is good but expensive, a new screen will be a lot  less.

if you have an MIB 2 6.5" screen its a straight swap to the flat 8" screen. I have one if you want it, much cheaper than ebay.

i went for the MIB2 replacement and 8" FL18 screen, its totally transformed the cabin

Wow that screen looks very nice . If you don’t mind me asking how much did it cost in total for the 8” did that screen have to be coded to the cd unit or was that a straight swop ? How much would be the 6.5” screen you have . Ps I only bought the Octavia three weeks ago that’s why I’m asking all tha questions over the screen but I have learnt a lot from you thanks

Screens are a straight swap if they are compatible. As you have a MIB1 unit the resolution is 240x400 you are stuck with a 5.8 inch screen sadly unless you change the radio.

Nothing if you use it on a MIB2. On the FL unit it returns to SmartLink.

That seems quite a lot if I’m honest but I may be wrong.

bottom trim missing is a bummer, it might be hard to source.
