Can I turn of the EPC light on my MK2 Skoda Octavia

Featured Replies

Is there a way of turning the EPC light of as I've fixed the problem but obviously cars still in limp mode

It might need the fault code clearing.

Just make a note of the codes first as you might find they come back depending if there are other issues causing the warning light.

Do I have to have a obd to get rid of the EPC light. It only come on cos I shorted something when changing a bulb and blew fuse 15 but it's still on so can't drive it

I suggest you carry on with your original post rather than start again. Your history and car details are in other post.

Having both VCDS and the same generic OBD reader that you have bought I have found that if there are no warning lights showing the OBD reader will show "no fault codes logged" whereas VCDS will show shedloads of them, all non mission critical like glowplugs, aircon sensors, alarm sensors, can bus non comms with modules etc.

But I believe that it would show whatever fault you created which has caused the EPC light to come on, if the fault is no longer there then you should be able to remove the fault code and the light should go out, it may well have done so anyway within a set number of fault free driving cycles, I am assuming that you have replaced the blown fuse.

Sometimes a fault may clear but come back when you start the engine or drive the vehicle, in that case it has not been rectified.

What was the problem and how did you fix it?

I pulled a bulb out of the boot and replaced it with a led it sparked and all internal lights went of with the EPC light and traction control light now it don't run hardly I no I should have disconnected the battery first I wasn't thinking

I would have thought most DTC codes are self clearing, sometimes requiring a few error free restarts and a few minutes running. The traction control light should go out if you move the car, within 100 metres or so. Exceptions are safety critical items like airbags.

If the EPC doesn't self clear, you may have damaged something, the shorting/sparking killing something with a voltage spike. Unlikely I would have thought but the only way to find out is to read and clear the codes.

You will need an OBD reader or VCDS.

So you reckon I should go for a short drive in it ? Cos I've just started it and it sounds bad so I've stopped it again. I should be getting a obd reader on Saturday just I'm in patient and my local garage can't help me till Monday WHATTTT lol

Impossible to tell without knowing what the code is....

If it sounds bad, I wouldn't risk it.
