Sudden Power loss

Featured Replies

Fabia Mk2 105BHP 2008 1.9TDI 80,000 miles, went out the other day dropped onto dual road put my foot down felt like fuel starvation and no turbo boost car carried on running so thought it might clear---no such luck went to where I was going about 30 miles and the car was left for about 2 hours came back started as normal and ran as normal full power as it always had been

Used the car for 2 days nothing wrong then again today the same thing happened went about 10 miles then loss of power just like turbo not working, no smoke at the rear no warning lights nothing, took it too a garage plugged it in no issues showing, started it up and again running as normal again any ideas ? all filters have been changed in August could it be a faulty fuel filter ?  will change it tomorrow and see what happens but wondered if anyone else has had this issue and what was the problem

Turbo vanes sticking possibly.

Get the mr muscle out and give it a try

Turbo was not sticking as suggested I'm not that dull !!! but hoses were all checked from the Turbo charge and intake, and were all ok, the fuel filter was replaced and I also removed and cleaned the control unit on the drivers side under the bonnet and gave the electric plug a clean and plugged it back in.

Took the car for a run and all seems ok again so not sure if it was the filter (which was a Bosch renewed in August 18)  or the control unit throwing a wobble and needed a clean but no matter it's back to normal now

Still sounds a little like turbo vanes - my old Fabia 1.9 PD sometimes used to cut out if I pushed down on the 'go' pedal on Dual Carriageways,if I turned the ign 'off' then 'on' - all was back to normal.

Sometimes I got an engine management light and sometimes I didn't.

When mine started with these symptoms - it was very occasional but gradually it started occurring more regularly.

Fuel filter, at that age, (Around 5 months)  should have been fine. Unless it was faulty, you had fuel contamination or covered HUGE distances, since then.

I would expect to change it every two years but usually change mine anually.

The problem is doing two things, doesn't help eliminate which one caused the issue.

Keep driving and see if the fault comes back as the sticking vanes issue is a known one!
