Fuel and temp gauges don't light

Featured Replies

Hi and thank you for your time reading this. We have a skoda fabia vrs 2011. In the UK the car sat for over a week over Christmas then on getting back in to it we noticed the fuel and temp gauges indicator pins don't light. This wouldn't be an issue in daylight but at the moment early starts and late homes you cant see them in the dark. Contacted our garage who said the can't do anything. Contacted skoda who said £50 to look at it and then said without looking at it it will prob need whole new instrument panel at a cost of over £1000! Our garage said if we get a second hand one they can fit it but what happens with the mileage etc with a second hand one and is it really a whole new panel because two indicator pins aren't working? Is there any way to get into it to replace bulbs or something?

Many thanks for your time

Prior to paying any cash, check the fuses and also, disconnect the battery and leave it ten mins or so. Connect back up and see if it then works.

If its not a fuse and won't come back on after this, do any of the other lights come on, such as window switch lights and the actual light switch lights, etc?

Sometimes static can temporarily "Wipe out" Interior instrument lights, hence the battery removal. (Just the neg clamp).

Skoda aren't going to be much help. Instead, find a decent electronics repair company.

It'll probably need a couple of SMD LED's soldering or replacing.

Thanks guys we will try the battery thing at the weekend and go from there. Finally managed to get a picture. The two small dials needles should be lit like the big ones.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Thanks again

Totally different dash to mine, which are the LCD type, with a thermometer glowing blue when cold, red if overheating and nothing for normal but still, don't rule out removing the battery terminal. At worst, you will have to re-set the windows, at best, they might just come on again!
