Oil Service reset

Featured Replies

Hi All

My 2017 Superb L&K Estate has started showing the "Oil Service Now" message and the incredibly annoying "bong" sound. It's 10 months and 9400 miles since the last service and the lease on this car finishes in three weeks so I'm not keen to service it before I hand it back. I have trawled the internet to find a way of resetting the indicator but nothing seems to work. I've tried holding down the mileage reset button whilst I turn on the ignition but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone found a way of resetting it please?

I think you'll be in breach of your lease conditions if you do this.

I'm on fixed servicing as 9,400 always seems to be the amount that shows on my car after a 10,000 mile service. Was your car set to fixed servicing at some point?

I was undertake impression that the car was set up for annual services. Are the service intervals not 12,000 miles or annual (whichever comes first)?

Looks like I will have to put up with the awful "bong" sound

Vag annual service regime is 9400miles/372 days. (9400 miles = 15000km)

Next time specify the variable service regime, that gives you "up to" twice the distance/time. Provided its allowed in your agreement.

Check your lease to see if going 10 days over the service indicator is allowed, I'm fairly sure it wouldn't have an impact on warranty which I think allows up to 1000 miles/1 month over. And I suspect most lease companies will accept that 10000miles /1 yr is ok.

Unless you are returning it - if it is asking for a service it will need doing whether you pay for it or they do it and then charge you (which will probably be more). A friend of mine was in the same situation with an Audi A4 just before he handed it back.

So thats  a pain in the neck. If its just asking for an Oil Service is that all I need to do? Simply get the oil changed?

Phone the lease company and tell them its not reached 10,000 miles since last service but the reminder has just come on at 9,400 miles. Will I need to have it serviced before handback in 10 days as it still will be under 10,000 miles since last service? See what they say.

Only do the minimum required by your contract. Check the contract wording and if Skoda dealer agrees that just an Oil service meets the vehicle's service requirement.

Btw, Skoda UK refer to annual service interval as 10,000 miles, the service reminder is set to 9,400 miles (15,000km) but there is that 1000 mile leeway I referred to earlier.

Try......

Nope - tried that ! Thanks anyway.

Isnt there a service reset option on the Columbus buried somewhere in vehicle info/status/settings/whatever?

I've been looking back at my previous service history and I'm puzzled. I had the first service done at 13,000 after 12 months (the service indicator did not appear in the display) I have now had the oil warning come up 9,400 miles and 10 months afterwards. Could the dealer have switched me from variable to fixed without referring to me? Has anyone experienced this?

Just a thought...

My selling dealer did this. Sadly it isn't uncommon.

Just tell them to change it back.

I have checked with the dealer who confirm that my servicing schedule was switched from variable to fixed - apparently at my behest. Why would I? Its a car on a two year lease! I've had numerous two year leases in the past and never experienced this problem before.  The dealers refuse to accept they have done anything wrong.

The car is showing that a service is due even though I have only done 9,400 miles since the last service in February 18. I have spoken with the lease company who have told me that as the dash shows a service is due, the car must be serviced before it is returned, even though the paperwork states a service isn't due. Either way, i've now got to have the vehicle serviced before the lease car goes back in two weeks.:swear:  Thank you Skoda - after buying seven new vehicles from you in the last twelve years, I think its time for a change...

Devious move by dealer. Why is it a problem to change it back? Answer: Profit

Unless they've used cheap jack oil and not the 504/507 they should be using there is no reason not to change it back. Its a two minute job plugging in a laptop. Seen it done when I demanded it put back after they changed it at PDI.

Ultimately they have shot themselves in the foot, they gain one service and lose a new sale. And all future sales from you and anyone you "unrecommend". Potentially many thousands of pounds plus all the service/repair/warranty for the sake of a hundred quid.
