Retrofit Front Assist?

Featured Replies

(Tried searching for this but the search function just gives me rubbish)

It’s always annoyed me that my vRS didn’t come with Front Assist. I was under the impression they all had it fitted as standard since it’s got the housing in the front grill.  The brochures seem to suggest that it’s standard too on models above SE.

Would it be possible to retrofit, or is it something that can only be fitted at the factory?

I know what you mean, MY13 Octavia Elegance doesn't have it either which I am very surprised at!

Had it as standard on my September 2013 Octavia Elegance, not sure why anyone would want it though as it didn't seem to work too well. Gave false warnings quite a few times both visual and I think a sound too, which took a long time to work out what they were as the warning light for this wasn't in the manual. Front Assist even kicked in one one occasion when a car in front of me slowed down to turn off the road without indicating, I was nowhere close to having a collision with it but the car stopped itself much to my surprise. I think the earlier versions were a bit unreliable and then there was a short period when it vanished from the Elegance spec before reappearing.

I have Front Assist on my 2015 Elegance, and also find it is prone to "crying wolf" when cars in front turn off - so I have to admit I tend to rely on the "Mark 1 eyeball"now B)

I have front assist and not sure I'd miss it or go as far as retrofitting it. Might save me one day unexpectedly, but in 2.5 years I've only ever had it kick in unnecessarily.

Hmm starting to wonder if you can retrofit or not. I imagine it might be a complex job tbh.

As for “why would you want it?” Well, I’m a firm believer in always having a backup for most things, in this case something that might come in useful should you miss something or react slightly too late.

We all try and be the best driver we can and keep and eye out for hazards, but there might be a situation one day where front assist could have saved you from bother.

Ive driven my dads karoq frequently with front assist and never had any activations, but it’s nice knowing it’s got your back should you need it.
