Bumps and scrapes

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I'm fairly new to the forum despite owning Skodas for donkey's years (2xFabia, 2xOctavia, 1xCitigo).

My question:  My wife manage to hit my Octy (MK2 1.9 TDI PD Ambiente estate 2008) whilst parking in the drive (don't ask!).  She managed to scrape the rear N/S door and dent the frame/side panel (where the door sits in).  It would appear that this section is replaceable as a complete unit, but I can't see how it fits as the roof and side panel seem to be one piece.  Does one have to cut it along the roof line and reweld?  Just asking about how big a job this is and whether it'd be just as well to fill the dent and spray (colour is LA7W Reflex Silver I believe).  See link for panel I'm referring to.

I've used the forum loads in the past for advice about how to fix my cars, so thanks in advance!

I've taken the roof liner out of mine, I'd imagine it'd be spot welded in place, but not sure, I've seen second half half cut sections of that piece for sale on eBay which may be an option

Looking at it, it'll be a very significant repair - lots of stripping back, cutting out the side of the car, welding in the new *major* section followed by a difficult spray and reassembly.

Depending on where the damage is and how substantial it is, I'd caution against simply filling and spraying as that area is structural

Have you got a photo of said damage? The Citigo comes apart pretty easily so the damage might be able to be pushed out and repaired that way

Cheers folks, much obliged.

The dent is relatively small, highly conspicuous, and located on a corner.  It's a 'crease' dent so not really very easy to remove.  The impact wasn't so great as to compromise structural integrity, but it's a pita place to fill.  For now, I'll go with a fill, checking out Hyphons eBay lead on the way.

Incidentally, the dent was caused by the corner of the Octy headlamp - which is obviously plastic?!?  A couple of bits were broken on the lamp (easily fixed and still fully working), with the lens intact.  What puzzled me at first is that I couldn't get the lamp to line up - until I discovered the adjustable 'plate' underneath (it'd been knocked out quite a bit).  A quick comparison with the other side allowed me to line it up properly and slide the lamp straight in.  There is a slight distortion of the wing but its mm and not worth worrying about.

One other thing, we've noticed the Citigo has an intermittent steering 'notchiness'.  From reading other posts, I take it no recall is in place to fix this as yet?

Cheers again for your time and suggestions.
