Dealer fitted Kenwood/Garmin GVN60 Sat Nav

Featured Replies

I purchased a Fabia Est SEL in Oct 2017. It had already been built and had everything I wanted apart from a factory installed sat nav system. The dealer suggested the Kenwood GVN60 as recommended by Skoda. I asked if it had the same functionality as my previous factory fitted sat nav in my previous Fabia. The dealer assured me that it did. I parted with the £500 and the unit was installed by the dealer prior to collection. Fifteen months later and I have come to the conclusion that the system is pretty hopeless. The  maps were out of date right from the start, the traffic updates have never worked and there do not appear to be any map updates available. I contacted the dealer soon after purchase to explain that the sat nav was not as described but the response was that it was the Skoda recommended unit. The dealer really didnt seem to know much about it. I have struggled along with it, been stuck in several huge jams that the sat nav knew nothing about and driven 'offroad' more times than I care to remember. A couple of weeks ago, a message appeared on the screen advising me that the maps needed to be update (tell me something I didn't know). I followed the instructions to the Kenwood website to find that the system is no longer supported.

Can anyone please let me know if they have ever managed to update the maps on this system.

Has anyone managed to get the travel updates to work?

I use the sat nav alot. Would I be better off changing it? Or pursuing the dealer to sort it out?

Thank you,

Sara

We had similar troubles with my wife's polo.  The traffic reception was cured when the dealer fitted an aerial booster.  Kenwood will supply these  to dealers on an ad-hoc basis; there is no other way of getting one.

Because of the map update problem I created a stir with VW  Customer Services and  the dealer.  Eventually they found an SD Card via  Kenwood online.  I can't find it now, but I think it's this update:

Because of the installation in the Polo the glovebox had to be removed to access the SD Card slot!  This was done free of charge by the dealer "under warranty".

That map update is dated 2017.  I can't track down a more recent one.  Because of that I would recommend you get a different unit. Good luck!
