Transit time from factory?

Featured Replies

Was not expecting it given we had a W2 2019 build week but our Superb Sportline Plus has now got order code 30 so in transit...wondered how long it usually takes before it would arrive at dealers?

Whereabouts are you?

UK

Week 2 was last week so no surprise it is shown in transit. I think bascially it means it is in the transhipment yard or o its way to the port. It can take up to 4 weeks to get to you but could be here sooner. Depends on the boat loading, where in the UK it arrives and how long it takes to get released and to your dealer. Enjoy the wait, at least you know it now exists and is on its way. :)

Agree with @Sagalout, 3-4 weeks give or take a few days, is about the norm.

There's some SLA's on how long the car can be at various stages, e.g IIRC the dealer should collect it from the terminating port within 2 weeks.  Then it depends on the dealers workload and PDI/prep queue but they are usually very quick at turning the cars around.

My first Sporline was built 17th Jan, in the UK 30th Jan and at the dealers a week after.  The second one took ~ one week longer as the dealer waited over a week before raising the transport order to have the car collected from sheerness but once they had it, it was ready to collect within 2-3 days.

From the factory, loaded on trains, go to the Baltic Sea port in Emden, this is usually within 24 hours.

Emden has space for thousands of cars, (you can google it and satellite view it). It will wait with hundreds of other cars for a ship so can be anything from 2 days to about 15 days.

UK cars go to Sheerness (for South), or Grimsby (Midlands and North).  I think some have also gone to Immingham or Tyne (but not sure if this is occasional when others busy).  Allow about 3 days for voyage.

Then needs to wait a Road transporter, so depends on other orders for your dealer.  Although some will do split drops to 2 dealers.  Generally the further your dealer is from the ports, the more likelihood of delays as some are too far to be driven out and back in a day so require limited supply of trucks with sleeper cabs.  I also understand some of the older trailers were not designed for full load of taller SUVs, so basically awaiting a load.

Majority of dealers only accept deliveries during service Dept opening times, so trucks leave port in middle of the night.  Therefore unlikely to arrive at weekend.   Depending on how busy they are allow 1-4 days for PDI (and possibly couple more days if damage or faults found that need rectifying.

So anything from about 2-7 weeks, with approx 4 weeks being typical for delivery.  (Tends to be longer around time of registration changes, late Feb and late Aug)

Thanks for the in-depth responses! The waiting game has begun.

So the car has now been "in transit from factory to Emden" for over 7 days. Has the person driving the transporter forgotten how to shift out of first gear? Is this normal?! The painful wait continues!

  • 2 weeks later...

Waiting time is getting ridiculous now. Took a week to get from factory to port, where it's sat for the past 9 days. There's a ship leaving today which it didn't make it onto and another leaving on saturday which it may or may not marke it onto.

I can feel the pain but it will all be over soon (not sure how that sounded :D ).   Mine's also somewhere on its way to Sweden, left the factory on the 19th and according to the dealer it will take ~4 weeks, which falls exactly on valentine's day :inlove:

However I'm not in a similar hurry as you are, as I haven't yet sold my current car and need to sort it soon...

Hope you have better luck than I've had. Into my third week at Emden and still not allocated to a ship. Getting ridiculous now.

Mine got built last week and told it will be in UK in 2 weeks. I am not so sure judging by the comments here. I think 2 weeks is a bit hopefully by them.

To be honest, at this point I'm just hoping for the delivery to be delayed as much as possible and give me more time with my current sale. Dealer said it's ok to keep the car 1-2 weeks till I sort things out but If I know it's here, I am probably dropping 1.5-2K my asking price just so as to be able to move on with the new car asap, which is not ideal!

Regardless, unless you're in an actual need of a vehicle (not just replacing another), I don't you should be too fussed. It will arrive and you'll enjoy it very soon! You know, positive thinking and all...

Don't believe a word of it based on my experience! So far:

Factory to port: 7 days

Port awaiting a ship: 15 days and counting (next ship doesn't even arrive until thursday)

Then told it's up to a week at Sheerness awaiting a transporter. Then another 4 day turnaround at the dealer before you can collect. It better be worth it after all this. Have nightmares about arriving to pick it up and finding dents or the dreaded transport protectors still on the springs.

Don't have a vehicle and need one so every day of delay is frustrating me. Was told 10-12 week wait when I ordered and even that was a stretch for me.

Ok that makes sense then. In that case keep bugging the dealer for updates and scheduled delivery I guess? What else could you do at this point you're mostly through the whole thing.

Are you guys badgering the Skoda dealers for updates or tracking your orders online some how?

Badgering dealer and getting on Skoda Live Chat on a daily basis, but it's not making a blind bit of difference to be honest!

I am curious and maybe someone can answer. So they assign a registration number to the car when it arrives at the port in the UK or does the garage do it when the car arrives to their location?

I am wondering because I am hoping that if mine was built last week that when it gets to the UK it will be given a "19" plate.

I did ask if they could wait until march to register it but they have refused. I would have thought a few days wouldn't matter I if it arrived at the end of Feb???

Allocated by the dealer when registered at the DVLA, often as just the next off the pile but you should be able to ask and see what they have got, make it more memorable etc.

You may find that the dealer is up against a bonus for selling x cars per month, slipping you to Mar may affect that bonus.  Did you stipulate delivery in Mar?

Probably shouldn't say this but... as I was fearing mine arrived today (Sweden), only 2.5 weeks after build date, that's unusually fast according to dealer. Of-course I ran to the dealership to behold it (and it looked really good) but didn't leave with it as it needs all the prepping done and I need to sort matters with my current car. So, if that's any help, you can think that none of us has a new Superb still

PS. @SteHaworth It did come with black Supernovas indeed, and they absolutely looked the business!

I think I am just going to have to wait and if it is only a few days from March then ask if they could hold of from registering it until the 1st of the month.

From what you say they don't have to register it when it gets to UK port but register it with DVLA when it arrives at the dealership.

I wonder how long it takes to prep?

Don't let your dealer muck you about. Tell them you want it on the 1st of March.

I once asked for a new car to be picked up on March 1st. It ended up arriving in January and they sat on it til I could pick it up. Work ended up sending me away and I couldn't pick it up until the 30th of March. Absolutely no problem from the dealer.

Get on the phone to them!

Over 3 weeks at Emden now. Still no sign of a ship allocation. Dealer said even when it arrives it's chaos at the UK ports at the moment so likely to be at least 2 weeks to get to them. Shambles.
