Roof Bars

I can't see any mention of them being to the ISO standard or CE marked, make sure you're not buying cheap Chinese tat.

For the sake of £70 I'd be buying proven bars from a reputable supplier...

Think you are right. Don’t know where, but I’d seen the prices a lot higher elsewhere. For £70, it’s a no brainier for peace of mind.

daft question - anyone know if the sunroof affects the load limit on the roof (I once had a smax that the load limit reduced considerably by having one)

Whichever make of bar you end up buying, make sure that the foot pack that fixes the bars to your roof rails is the correct fit.

As an example with Thule bars and foot packs; several people have used the Thule 757 foot pack on previous cars they've owned with raised roof rails and now think they can move them over to the Kodiaq. I thought the same as I'd used the 757s on a previous Superb estate and thought they'd be suitable for my Kodiaq.

They are not, as the roof bar angles on the Kodiaq are different to my previous cars and the 757s are a poor fit and could be dangerous !!

The Thule 775 foot pack is what Thule recommend for the Kodiaq, and these are what I now have and they're far superior to the 757s for use on the Kodiaq.

The Thule 757 foot pack fits tight as a glove on my Kodiaq.

Not sure what you mean by 'poor fit' but they are every bit as good as they were on the two previous Octavia's (MkII & MkIII)...

All the way to France and back, fully loaded. They didn't need tightening.

Thule's 775 foot pack is their latest generic one-size-fits-all design, it is designed to fit almost all roof rails. Since it's release Thule also recommend it for use on the Octavia, but also continue to list the 757 as being suitable. I thought I'd wait until my Kodiaq was delivered before deciding if I'd need a new foot pack. It was quickly clear that the 757 fits fine.

I knew someone would come back and say that the 757s are ok.

I'm glad they're working for you, especially as you're carrying a load that generates a lot of wind lift. I carry 16' Canadian canoes and I would never risk them coming off by using 757s.

The 775s might be generic but they include a metal strap which passes under the roof rail making them far more secure.

I could never in all good conscience recommend 757s for the Kodiaq and neither do Thule. Also, the bars and feet that Skoda supply have the same type of attachment as the Thule 775s.

One thing that I notice; your bars are silver - do they differ from the black ones I have on my SEL ??

I think the wrap around strap on the 775's is the basis behind the one-size-fits-all type approach as they're far more adaptable to slight changes in roof rail sizes and shapes. Must make Thule's and our lives easier having fewer foot styles / packs.

My roof bars are called the 'WingBar', they are old though, I'd guess at least 5+ years so perhaps Thule have changed / discontinued them...

I have wing bars and they are still available.

The roof rails on your car and mine are the same except for colour. I've just been to my dealer on another matter and asked that question.

The roof rails on the Kodiaq are a different profile and are fitted to the car at a different angle (i.e. the are leaning inwards rather than being upright)  than the ones that were on my Mk11 Superb.

Before picking up my Kodiaq, I took my old 757s to the dealer to see if they fitted. I also tried them on a new Superb as well and I could not get them to grip correctly. Thinking about it now, maybe it was because I only took the feet and not the bars as well. Maybe with the bars in situ they would have been a more snug fit. Be that as it may though, I feel far happier with the 775s, especially taking into account what I carry on them.

Ah sorry, I think we're mixing up 'rails' and 'bars'.

The roof rails (that come fitted on all Kodiaq's) on my Scout are silver. I believe there are three options across the different specifications:

1) Matt black - slightly textured (S, SE, SE L & SE Technology, SportLine)

2) Silver - smooth (Scout, Edition, L&K)

3) Shiny black - smooth (vRS only)

I wouldn't know if their shape changes too, I wouldn't have thought so but it is a possibility I suppose?

Reading back, it was my mistake initially, I said bars when I meant rails. I think you just said bars instead of rails .

As I said in my last post, the roof rails fitted to all Kodiaqs have the same profile, it's just the colour that varies according to my dealer.
