So you are not saying.

 

I've just checked CAVE/CTHE and EA111 1.4tsi, and it uses a cast iron block, AFAIK no cylinder liners. So if there was "cylinder damage" the block would have to be stripped completely and would have to be rebored or scrapped.

 

Just my usual suspicion kicking in  that the dealers were telling you uninformed porkies. 

 

But at least you have 2 year unlimited mileage, parts and labour warranty on the engine work carried out.

 

Sometimes ignorance is bliss and £340 is worth the "service" plus warranty.

Correct xman, I'm deeply suspicious of the dealer here as well but the fella has actually got a decent outcome provided the car is returned a1ok. £340 versus upwards of £3000 is a good deal, with a service thrown in.

 

I suspect the deal is offered like so in order that the owner sees the happy ending and drops the questions as to what the actual f they were up to previously.

 

But a good outcome, if the owner is happy and the car works well that's all that will matter.
