Instrument cluster . Skoda Fabia 2017

Featured Replies

Hi. I've just picked this up and all seemed okay. The speed was shown on the instrument cluster, no problem. Suddenly today, when returning home, the speed has been replaced by miles. Without trawling through the manual, which is mind boggling, could anyone tell me why this has happened and how to get the speed back. I haven't touched anything and am totally confused. Cheers All.

Might depend on which Trim level you have - S, SE, SEL in UK ( often Active, Ambition or Style in other markets ) ...

on most of mid-level and upper level trims, it's a case of rotating the right-hand "wheel control" on the steering wheel - which gives access to different driving data.

The stuff is around Page 40 on the manual, depending on which version you have ...

Here's a pic of the control :

Thanks Freedom. That makes sense. I was fiddling with the wipers in the rain and must have got my hands on the wheel control.

i have a se colour edition, the kit is a bit mind boggling after a rusty Ford Ka 2005. I will have a look tomorrow but that's probably it. The new technology is like night and day and the drivers manual requires a bit of absorption.

Doesnt help drenching and ruining the infotainment manual with milk spilt, in a bag, next to the manuals yesterday!

much obliged!

Thanks Freedom. Yes mine is a 1.2. I know who to come to if I can't fathom things out. Does your steering lock work every time.

It has took me a little time to get the hang of this as I'm sure there has been an occasion when even with the key out and wheels straight, the wheel has not locked. Do you encounter any occasions where you have experienced that?

Steering lock OK - my car has KESSY (the keyless version) -- and  as @fabikent says on your other thread about that, the steering lock on these versions doesn't start activating until the driver's door is open. There's a just faint little whirr and it's done !  Maybe someone with a  Key-lock version will confirm what happens on those.

p.s. my screen name here is Mithane  ( not that it matters !!! ) - the "Freedom" bit is the name they have for Forum membership/contribution - it's optional - you can read about it in the "Shop". (https://www.briskoda.net/forums/store/).

Small point to note.

When you open the drivers door first after a while parked the fuel pimp primes and you might hear that.

My steering lock requires the steering wheel to be turned slightly to one side or the other after removing the key before it kicks in.  I have a key operated MkIII SE DSG.

I assume that a key operated ignition will use a mechanical form of steering wheel lock where removing the key from the ignition will cause some form of bolt to engage with the steering column. If the two parts are not aligned when the key is removed then it will be necessary to slightly turn the wheel until the 'bolt' clicks into the locking position. To release the  lock when the key is reinserted it's often necessary to  move the wheel slightly to release the pressure stopping the 'bolt' from being retracted. Obviously,  keyless ignition must do the same thing but this can only be done by electronic/electric means possibly involving the use of solenoids etc.
