DSG repair under extended warranty?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I've done a search but can't quite find a definitive answer so am posting here.

I am in the lucky position of looking to purchase my first Skoda with a view to keeping it approximately 10 years, the Skoda Superb 1.5TSi SE L Executive is the model I am looking at. Originally I was looking at an automatic, however a friend point me to the Honest John column on the DQ200 problems so I changed my spec to a manual. However the boss is fairly insistent that we need an automatic so I steered away from any VAG group cars. The budget does not stretch to a 2.0tsi with the other DSG box.....

However it occurred to me that perhaps I was being a tad rash and that if I was to use a Skoda Extended Warranty (after the 5 years I was planning on buying with the car) it should cover the DSG box. Upon reading the small print of the Skoda Extended Warranty to see what is not covered I see that it doesn't cover wear and tear (my extended warranty on my Discovery covers wear and tear) specifically on the clutch.

It states that it does not cover "Clutch frictional material" totally can accept this (guess it means a manual?) but it then says "Renewal of any clutch components due to wear and tear, misuse or incorrect adjustment". Is this referring to the DSG box or a manual?

So my question is whether the DSG box is covered under extended warranty?

I've e-mailed Skoda directly with this question but am still awaiting an answer.

Has anyone had a DSG box fail and had it repaired under the Skoda Extended Warranty?

Welcome.

The Extended Warranty for 1 or 2 extra years bought before the car is registered covers the DSG.

The Skoda All Parts Warranty bought when the Manufacturers Warranty Expires covers the DSG.

As it is Skoda / VW have had plenty DQ200 7 Speed DSG issues 2009-2012, then 2012-2015, and up to 2018 still some issues

so if there were to be any problems with the DSG as in Clutch Packs or the MCU the warranty had better cover that, it would be Fundamental Design, Manufacturing, Material or software faults.

Plenty DQ200's are trouble free, Skoda produce 2,200 a day.

Personally i would be more concerned with issues with 1.5TSI Engines.  See the Karoq section.   Skoda, VW.Audi, SEAT need that addressed.

Skoffski, many thanks for the reply. I guess another way of looking at it is that they have made 1.9 million DQ200 and not all are falling by the wayside.

Thanks for the heads up on the 1.5tsi.

If only car buying was simple.....
