12.1V Since Friday 17:00. Octy 07

Featured Replies

Hello! I got back from work this Friday, and I put the car in the garage. I've had problems with batteries running flat, so I bought a new one and fitted wednesday. I've hooked the CTEK charger to my engine warmer, so it charges the battery while the electric heater is doing its buisiness.

This morning I check the voltages and its at 12.1V.... Its a big battery from Varta, with 77aH. It must be a big power leak? Problems with the car: Towing bar electrics doesnt work, 3rd party car alarm.

I read that in order to check for power thieves I have to make the bonnet and drivers door think that its closed so I can lock the car and put it in "sleep" mode?

Thanks alot for any help!

Yes, you need to lock the car, make sure the car thinks all the doors are shut and wait for it to go into sleep mode (it may not if you have issues)

Then the best way to measure parasitic current draw is to use a multimeter and measure the voltage across each fuse in the fusebox. (mV)

Use the table provided with the value of the fuse to figure out the current being drawn in each circuit.

Thanks! I took the voltage reading from the cigarette lighter outlet. Maybe it only shows 12v? Because my CTEK showed fully charges after just 30 minutes

What did you use to measure the voltage? Did you have the ignition on/doors open/lights on. ?

Just a normal multimeter. Ignition off, driver's door open. I guess the lights were on!
