Kodiaq beeping on start and every minute

Featured Replies

New Kodiaq with 150km on dashboard.

Yesterday started beeping on startup. Even if I don't press brakes and just press start without actually starting the engine. Same beeping happend every minute even if engine is running.

No messages or symbols on dashboard with started engine. Just this annoying beep on start and each minute.

Got service appointment tomorrow, but maybe somebody has any ideas.

On the phone dealer suggested that it may be additional immobilizer that was added to comply with insurance rules .. maybe battery of immobilizer is faulty or something.  But I would cross this out since if I don't have immobilizer on me then  there is additional more or less pleasant beep that is related to immobilizer.

Also tried all keys and both immobilizers to rule out one faulty. No luck so far...

The first beep isn't even continuous, almost as if it's power source was temporarily disrupted.

It doesn't sound like a genuine Skoda beep, more like an aftermarket buzzer.

What dealer accessories have you had attached to the car? Webasto heater, aftermarket tow bar, additional security?

Where are you, your profile doesn't tell us which country you're in?

From dealer accessories only additional security (immobilizer), but it has different beep. So I ruled it out. Still maybe it will turn out that it has some malfunction.

I have also webasto type heater but that was factory option and is working fine.

Other than that everything is factory ordered and car was manufactured just about 2 or 2.5 weeks ago :)

Will update profile, I'm from Latvia

You have a low temperature  warning showing on your dash, it's not that is it ?

In other cars I've had, if something relatively heavy is placed on a seat, the system thinks there's a person sitting on it that hasn't buckled their seat belt and a constant bleep would sound.

Just making guesses really, it's probably neither.

About temperature.. nop. Previous days it was -10 and all was fine. Today it is relatively warm.

About seat belts - That is the same logic I had. I have a child seat in one of rear seats. Tried to buckle up seat-belts so even if car think there is somebody then seat belts where buckled up. In such case it was even shown on display as occupied and buckled up. Without seat belt it shows all seats (except mine) in white as empty.

For few days all was fine and suddenly it started to happen....

And beeping repeats after each minute.

The lower temperature warning and seat belt warning sound different.

Definitely a strange one. Either way the car is under warranty, you've done the right thing and taken a video of the fault so the dealer can't dispute it's doing what its doing. Leave it with them and be sure not to accept the car back until you're satisfied they've actually done something to remedy it.

Virtual Cockpit looks good by the way

btw, not sure that it is not genuine skoda sound .. had to cut video short and convert it to smaller size, so sound is quite bad in quality, but the beep is exactly as I had on Octavia vRS (mk2?). Same beep you get with low coolant level or oil level. Usually together with some red warning light. Bad (or good?) part this time, that there is no additional light/symbol or other entry. Also skoda connect app is telling that all is fine and there are no health issues (warnings).

Have you gone into the infotainment system and checked the 'Vehicle Status' menu?

It is possible to get entries in there, without seeing the additional amber triangle in the instrument cluster.

Yes, nothing under Vehicle Status.

A strange one then! Going to need a trip to the dealer...

It's the immobiliser

You say the temperature was warmer than - 10.    Any chance it was around 2.5C?  Skoda may be the same as out rav4 - Each time the temperature hits 2.5C the car will beep to warn of ice......annoying if the temperature is actually 2 to 3 C as it will beep each time it reads 2.5C

Nop, at 4 degrees you get this loud ding.

in this case dealer thinks it is imobilizer after all... sitting and waiting for my car right now. Hopefully they will find correct reason.

Why does your insurance company require the installation of an additional immobiliser? What's wrong with the one Skoda fit as standard?

Recently it is a common practice to steal cars with keyless system. If you keep keys at home without any signal blocking wallet or something like that, then during night they get scanned and poof... your car is gone. So all insurance companies insist on having extra protection if you have keyless.

about the problem: yes it was imobilizer. Even dealer had to contact supplier to sort this out. Turns out if you hold some button on the chip or have it in you pocket where you can press it somehow then it may enter service maintenance mode. It is intended for dealer visits so you don’t have to turn over you imobilizer chip. During this mode car can be started even without presence of chip... later on just hold it again to get back to normal mode. Funny story... it took almost two hours to sort it out.

So this insurance requirement is not only for skoda, but for all keyless. For skoda immobiliser is enough, for bmw or other premiums you can’t get insurance against theft without some additional tracking thru satelites or something like that.

And this is only for theft insurance not the regular one required by law to actually drive the car on public roads.
