1.4 TSI what to look for

Featured Replies

Hi i am looking at a 2012 skoda octavia mk II 80k miles on saturday. its a 1.4tsi elegance model. Can anyone tell me about these engines? are they to be avoided? What are common problems.  thanking you in advance.

Welcome.

These 1.4TSI are not a problem.  So look at the Service History if there is one. I would prefer there was Fixed Service intervals and Oil & filter changes at 9,400 (10,000) Miles.

But maybe it has have Variable Servicing part of its life.

Spark Plugs should have been changed twice and certainly checked recently if not changed. Air Filter, Pollen Filter changes, Brake Fluid change in 2015 and maybe again since,

maybe in the past 2 years.

Hi Skoffski, Thank you. ok cool i have good knowledge of cars but have done a lot of reading on this particular car and ive heard most people saying avoid the engines with timing chains. Can I ask if the engines in a 2012 1.4 tsi are turbocharged and super charged or just turbo charged? and when did these engines change to belt drive?

Chill.

Just a 1.4TSI  Turbo. Good engines.  Needs VW504/507 so 5w 30 FS Long Life oil for Variable or Flexible servicing,

I would go to VW502 00 so 5w 40 FS oil now with yours and Fixed Service Intervals.    I believe that most TSI are Long Life Oil, Short life engine, but that is mostly the Twinchargers,

then 1.2,1.8 & 2.0 Euro 5 TSI's. obviously millions are long lived and if not we would hear all about it...

The real worry & lottery is a Euro 5 1.4TSI as in Mk2 Fabia vRS and some sister brands cars.

132kw Twincharger.    Skoda / VW never make things easy calling engines by same names...
