Suggestion on how to wire/mount a rear dashcam on the S2?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a dashcam, mini 0906. It is somehow the same as the mini 0806, but with additional rear camera.

I already wired the front camera and wiring kit, it works well.

Does someone have a suggestion how to wire the rear camera and where to mount it?

Currently my only idea is to wire it on boot of the combi, which requires disassembly of the interiour of the boot - which I have to do anyway, because I want a rear driving camera too (for the columbus).

Did someone already mount a rear dashcam?

Not a lot on mouting rear dash cams, plenty for the front.

This was all I could find...

Mine is mounted directly on the rear glass.

I have left a decent loop of cable to prevent core damage as the boot is opened and closed.

No issues in 5 years.

Running the cable was simple too, remove the boot rubber trim and gently pull down the headlining, you can see all the way to the front.

I used fish wires to pull the cable through, of course you cant secure it so make sure it sits far away from the curtain air bags just in case.

It surprises me how many people have dashcams but don't have a rear facing too. Having said that mine has paid for itself three times from the front camera and only once from the rear view.

Still that would have been one new bumper and respray that I would have had to pay for.

Thank you,

so that means you ran the cable across the roof? Does it rattle?  Do you have a panoramic roof?

Is your camera visible from the outside?

yes I have a panoramic roof, the cable sits as close to that as I could get it so it would be away from the curtain air bags.

no rattle that I have ever heard but then the headlining isn't a hard enough substance to make a noise.

yes you can see the camera from outside.

it is at the top of the rear screen and gas an led lit when it is on.

Did you have to remove the (internal grey) roof for that?

Could you tell me how that is done?

(internal grey) roof

I do not understand sorry. by headlining I refer to the roof fabric (internal)

I should add that as there is not a direct line of sight from the rear to the centre (rear view mirror) of the front due to the panoramic roof, I first pulled sufficient cable through the drivers sunvisor lamp and then tucked that along and under  the headlining by the windscreen, where the headlining is not secured in any way.

once enough cable is through you can pull the surplus loop out of the lamp hole by pulling it from the boot.
