Glad its working and that you didnt follow my lead and buy a Chinese one, I used a second hand one on my MK1 and it was fine thereafter.

 

And thanks for the reminder about the shorter belt, I had forgotten that I had bought one just in case, I will fit it now to isolate the aircon and be able to turn the pulley by hand for a feel and if the noise returns it must be the alternator pulley.

I got mine from a place called TMET car breakers in Armagh ph. 04837549092.They send a truck around Ireland once a week doing deliveries or you can collect from the yard.They were good the lady answered the phone and within seconds she said they had one off a golf I think. It had the same part number and was same make as my knackered . The do cash on delivery too.
