Would a Kodiaq make a better long-distance cruiser than a Karoq?

Featured Replies

Short journeys where you are not going as far as to use one gallon before stopping from a cold start is going to be giving poor economy as the first  20 Miles with a diesel is not going to be efficient.   But going further is what makes the difference. Hardly rocket science. If you are going motorway munching that is the point of a diesel. And weight carried. Because the with with the same ps as a diesel van easily be a bit of a drinker doing the same journey and speed when carrying a weight.

People will always drive differently. And get different experiences, i regularly  drive at 60 mph about 50 yards after starting from leaving the starting point in various vehicles where in know the MPG achieved year after year is. Then 30 miles until the motorway, and faster.

or 5 minutes and 3 miles and 3 miles through town and straight on to 50 miles of 70 mph average speed cameras.

The only change winter might make is if there is snow on the road, but i monitor the warm ip rime indicated and pay for the fuel, and when heading off om journeys start with a tank that has been used just 1 miles from being topped up.

Only have the heated mirrors, windscreen, rear screen for a few minutes maybe, heated seats until they are hot or comfortable is my habit .

The Winter tyres on might on might not affect fuel consumption. All depends on which vehicles and tyres.

I regularly have bikes on the rear of vehicles summer and winter but not every journey, it depends on if there are passengers and the bikes can be carried in

the car.

(This winter so far and the last 2 winters with a TDI and Winter Diesel from October to March and several at an below freezing weeks, and 8,000 miles or so a winter over 700 miles from 63 liters of diesel and April to October usually 630 miles or so. Same journeys taking the same time to drive them.)

Maybe more coasting done during the winter.)

Next winter i will be using an EV, so changes required and an hours charging after 200 and a bit miles will be needed.

I'd worry about depreciation more to be honest than the small difference in fuel cost :)

Only ever worry about depreciation in vehicles that you are not going to keep long.

Even then do you need to worry, it depends what you actually pay to buy, and how much to run, and then how much you enjoy the vehicle you chose.

?

Which will have worse depreciation, the Kodiaq or the Karoq, & the Diesel or the Petrol?

Feck knows.

I ordered a Tarraco diesel remember. They predict it will be worth £12,555 in 4 years time (so lost 60%). SEAT finance online quote around £11.500 for some specs using the 1.5 TSI

It's all smoke and mirrors ha or smirrors :)

If I paid the same amount of money for both, Kodiaq and Karoq, I would expect Kodiaq to hold its value better, because it's a much bigger car.

@TonyTonic

Exactly.  You ordered and are buying or leasing a model from the highest depreciating VW Brand SEAT.

The thing is the Tarraco might be the exception to the rule.   But as to who wants a SEAT Diesel in 2022 or 2023 in the UK even if a SUV,

who knows.

Derren Brown propably has not a scooby, but VW Finance will have their crystal balls spinning.

Real depreciation is if you buy a car and want to sell it, not trade back into Skoda or SEAT or VW or Audi.

They never want cars to look like depreciation disasters.

Well, 10/11 L per 100KM (real life) on the 2.0 TSI is a lot - it's a heavy car. I'll take diesel on a SUV at the moment. See how it pans out in 2 years when I've paid off more than half/

So you are not buying just renting!  Depreciation not your concern.

You are in the UK.  Big difference.  Fuel, tax, etc.

?

What is your annual mileage?

UK 4000 miles, plus 4000-5000 miles a year long distance across Europe, hence the diesel

We have a Astra 1.4 petrol at the moment which was promised as fuel efficient, I can barely do 300 miles on a tank of 56L

4,000 - 5,000 miles UK travel, and you are renting a diesel.  Each to their own.

10k total, of which are 4/5k UK PLUS 4/5K continental long distance (fully loaded up).

I read that, that is why i said, 4,000-5,000 miles UK Travel.

Enjoy it.

What have you tried with a test drive the Tarraco or just the diesel Kodiaq

JUst Kodiaq, Tarraco on Saturday as it launches in UK, build week 12 so not too late to cancel should I hate it. Will go back to Kodiaq in that case but may need a rethink as at 5.5% APR come out a lot more expensive per month. Would go for Superb Estate but missus won and SUV it is

The Tarraco is great, i have driven a left hand drive TDI DSG.

I no longer use my 2016 Alhambra TDI DSG for local trips.

It is due to be handed back later this year, done 15,000 miles plus a year and is regening all the time now.

Total PITA, a few days short runs and the blocked DPF light is on.

Does it have AdBlue?

Yes the last of the great VW Cheaters.

Each time filled with AdBlue the range is great, greater, the fuel economy is great, stopped drinking oil and only sipping the AdBlue.

10 miles to the litre at the worst, and just hates short trips in winter.

Not a engine / car you want to own out of Manufacturers Warranty....

Can I ask you more about the tarraco if you're happy to share? If not, don't worry I will drive it on Saturday just curious.

Where did you drive it? I heard the steering is very direct and it only takes one turn either way for full lock

which TDI did you try? the 150 or the 190?

Is it noisy or the same as Kodiaq? Wind noise? NVH?

Thank you
