Hi there

Featured Replies

We have just updated from a 1.6 diesel  Octavia to a 1.5 TSI SEL Karoq.  What a difference!

The bells and whistles on the Karoq are taking a while to get used to but generally we like the car.

The engine does have some odd characteristics, but have not noticed the kangarooing reported by many owners at a start but it  apparently stalled when changing down from 4 to 3 while turning a corner about an hour back , a bit disconcerting!

Hopefully a one off experience.

Great Forum!

Hi Karock, welcome to the forum - I assume that you have the DSG box?

Many thanks, no it is the manual box. Having been used to the diesel with its high torque at low revs it will take a while to adjust to an engine that requires more revs especially when pulling away but so far no problems on starting.

I would like to know why it nearly stalled though when changing down from 4 to 3, just pulling into the farm track and a bit of an incline so perhaps I let the revs drop too low.

I'm pretty certain that the manual box should not do this - check the function of the "anti-stall" From stopped, select first gear, without touching the throttle and watching the rev counter, very slowly let the clutch out until you start to feel the "bite point" the revs should go up - possibly 100-200 RPM . Does this happen?

Were you possibly on very slippery ground, with the front wheels operating in anti-lock mode, when the engine stalled and did the engine restart immediately you pressed the clutch pedal to the floor (without touching the key - unless you have KESSY)?

Many thanks Warrior for the advice, you are spot on, the ground was tarmac covered in ice so very slippery. I do have Kessy but  always switch off the Start/Stop finding it a nuisance, you have solved the mystery.  Much appreciated!
