Parking sensors or parking aid module?

Featured Replies

Good afternoon guys,

Hopefully someone can shed some light on the issue.

After buying the vehicle (at night) I saw that the car has parking sensors, I thought happy days, but unfortunately It doesn't work.

I put it in reverse, a short beep afterwards (2-3 seconds), a pixelated image of the car appears on the radio display for a second afterwards nothing. Sometimes it doesn't show anything at all when I put it in reverse.

Car hasn't been damaged in the back, parking sensors are facory fitted, and the reverse lights work.

Anyone else has had this problem in the past? If so, would the parking sensors or the parking aid module be the culprit?

Mine does this when the battery is low on volts, even though there is no problem starting etc.

Recommend you stick the battery on a good overnight charge to bring it up to a decent state of charge, which always sorts mine out.

Otherwise, when starting the car, allow the engine to rev for a while before selecting reverse. If the parking sensors lock out due to low volts, they remain locked out until you switch off the ignition and restart the car.

Had this problem with my 2010 1.9 estate. The garage where I bought it fixed them under warranty. They hooked it up to a computer which told them one of the sensors was faulty and even told them which one. All good now.

My brother is a technician and I will go see him if I don't find any DIY solution. Thank you.

It's worth a shot! Unfortunately I don't have a garage. But I will probably stay in the car for one hour and see if your solution helps.

Put it in reverse, and I know it sounds silly, but sometimes you can "hear" the sensors "clicking" when they are working, so if it's quiet when you do it,  get your ear close to each sensor and you may well hear them OR not for the one which is faulty.

My daughter's Fabia had a parking sensor problem when we bought it. We new it as it was obvious and I put the VCDS on. Does your car beep briefly when you go into reverse?

We bought a replacement sensor from Aliexpress and it is fine now.

You need a read out to know which sensor it is, unless you want to disconnect one by one until you sort the problem.

If your battery is flat other controllers would also play up and store DTCs, but they will come back to life when voltage is restored. DTCs will remain stored.

I did the same thing this weekend, I used a vcds and it's showing 3 sensors that are faulty and needs changing or it could be the cable?

Nonetheless, are the sensors from AliExpress on any good?

This was the one we ordered. It is working fine. https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.6.2.51354c4dAumWeI&orderId=96543804404850&productId=32914671886

I had one from an Amazon dealer before which was faulty and was returned.

A workshop manual I used said to remove the bumper, which is a pain, but you might be able to get into the bumper and to the sensors by simply removing the rear lights and feel your way inside the bumper. Just do not loose the little white spacer rings.

With VCDS you can go into I think advanced measurements in CTR 76 and you can see the sensors in real time when someone approaches from behind.

Thank you. Once it's summer and nicer to stay outside I will do it with my brother.

If you need part numbers for your daughter's Skoda give me a sign, I work in the parts department and we use Etka.

That's also an option I considered yesterday. I will just buy everything and return what I don't need. Problem solved.

This is my first car driven in the UK and it's a bit of a bit** with the narrow parking spaces in London. Poor wheels.
