Dash lights and loose wire

Featured Replies

Good evening,

I have a few issues with my Octavia 2003 Laurnt and klement (I think it’s a mkII) that I would be grateful for any assistance with. I am not sure if the problems are connected or just coincidence I found them. From

Reading the forum some may be on the same circuit.

Problems:

No rear number plate light

Random clicking (relay) sound after indicating (fast and slow)

Dashboard lights failed

Passenger heated seat failed

No fuses appear to have blown

Bulbs have been checked and working indicators function correctly

I saw a wire hanging in the passenger footwell and after removing the glovebox found two unconnected wires that have been pulled or broken. I removed the radio and found three unconnected wires from there. I’m not sure if this is a unrelated radio issue or the cause of the other faults.

Black wire with grey plastic connector - no obvious location to fit.

Purple wire with white stripe and orange spot - reverse gear signal label.

On radio loom

A wire added to the brown

A wire added to the red and white

A blue and yellow wire

Priority is dash board & numberplate lights for mot!

2003 should be a Mk1 - mine was!

If so, Brown wires are neg/chassis/ground, Red+White wire is the supply to the radio via fuse 42.

Looks like someone added some accessories and that is where the extra plug goes.

My guess is that they connected an additional bass/amplifier unit (best guess) or bluetooth/ phone connection unit.

Your clicking is probably a failing indicator relay (common problem on Mk1) which is integral with hazard flasher on the dash. Easy to replace and photos on Mk1 section.

To confirm which Mk car you have, look at the photos on the Honest John website.
