Sportline or SE L Executive TSI?

Featured Replies

I am looking to purchase a nearly new (Mk3) Superb Estate and would like to hear views on which trim level to go for. I like the look of the Sportline, but I would like a powered tailgate and folding mirrors, of which there seems to be mixed views on whether the Sportline trim has these as standard. I would also like to hear from anyone over the Sportline ride quality over imperfect british roads. Is it harsh or crashy? thanks in advance.

The specification page shows that Sportline trim does get electronically folding mirrors, but the powered tailgate is a feature of Sportline+, or added as an option to the base Sportline trim.

As for drive, I’ve found the one I tested (mine is on order) to be comfortable and well powered when you needed it (with the expected lag when in eco mode).

It didn’t feel bouncy or crashy whatsoever, although my view may be slightly bias as SWMBO said she loved the drive compared to the BMW I had my eyes on.

This post has a more comprehensive breakdown of the Sportline ride quality if you fancy a read.

It is a big car, so a very different feel to the Fabia I have at the moment, however, there’s a reason there’s a Superb on the way and not a 4 series...!

I tested a sportline and SE-L 280 and got the sportline. Both are hatches. Reasons being it looks nicer, has the cool ambient lighting inside and I reckon if I don't go for a blingy-er car now, I'll never have one when I am older. Also being a 280, I reckon the lower ride height and more aggressive suspension will be more of  a match to the character.

The ride is harsher compared to the  SEL but it's hard to say by how much due to short test drive. Day to day in my sportline I don't think the ride is bad but you'd certainly feel some jiggles. Above 50mph, it smooths right out unless the roads are bad. Mine doesn't have DCC FYI.

Thanks Kete, once I had driven a Sportline, I had to have it. Picked up a 220 Estate and a week in am very happy with the ride quality. Would have loved a 280 though!

Glad you found your car. A 220 is a pretty nice sleeper with low down power on par with a 280.

Same torque figures until the top where it falls off. See you in the Superb MK3 forums :)

Agreed.  Only at the business end of the rev range does the 280 really come into it's own.  I think the 220 is the 'sweetspot' in the Superb range; running costs close to the diesels, performance not far off a 280.
