Headlamp Washers

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've just got an Octavia 2007 model with auto box and 2.0tdi engine. It has pop out headlight washers on the front bumper (no wipers, just the washers) but the bumper has had a knock and the cover has come off one. I want to repair the bumper (only a small scuff) but not sure about the washer system. Can it be disabled? I don't even know for sure it works, how do I get it into a position where I can put the cover back on if it does?

Many thanks for any help on offer

If you have Xenon headlights, it's a legal and MoT requirement for you to have working washers.

I did not know this thank you.

you can just pull the washer spout by hand and clip the cover back on, however if the clips are broken you will need a new cover from your local skoda dealer or local TPS branch

Sorry if I was a bit terse, I'm multitasking at work.

The Xenon lights are so bright that they will dazzle oncoming motorists if the lights are dirty and the dirt scatters the beam. That's why it's a requirement and any car with Xenons will have the washers and headlight levelling fitted. Are the clips on the little plastic cover intact? If the are then I would try what Wiilydog suggested first. If you're lucky then the cover may just have popped off and will go back on. If you do need to get a new one and get it painted the right colour, I don't think it will cost you a fortune.

All the best,

Paul.

That's great, thank you both for your help. I have a Golf presently and my lights dazzle oncoming motorists but the garage have never been able to find any problem with them and it's gone through every MOT with no problems.

Have you checked the levelling sensor on the rear suspension is working?

When you start the car and turn the lights on do the beams do the nodding dog (A5 Golf) or the little dance (A6 Golf)?

It might be worth you getting a copy of VCDS. That should help you look after your Octavia and the Golf too.

AFAIR it's fuse 36 to disable them.

If the cover is broken you can stick them back on with adhesive, pull the mechanism fully out and jam something through it to prevent it returning whilst the adhesive dries.
