Sports or standard suspension

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

looking for some advice, the time has come to replace the front/ rear dampers on my Mk2 superb, its and elegance model with 6 speed DSG, can anyone tell me how I would know if it is running Sports suspension or standard suspension as this is the 2 options for the Bilstein B4 dampers I'm looking to install? any help or advice on this would be appreciated.

Regards Dave

It should be on standard suspension because I had 2 Elegance MK2 Superbs and that's how they came from the factory, unless someone fitted shorter springs which would be obvious if the gap between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch is quite small. Do you want better body control or good ride comfort seems to be the real question. I bought Superbs for their refinement and comfortable cruising ability rather than the ability to put a big smile on my face on a B road blast. You have to decide what is more important to you.:notme:

Cheers,

To be honest I'm happy as it is but dampers are now knocking so need replacing which I can do myself. The only issue is I didn't want to put the wrong dampers on for the springs. Bilstein offer OE dampers for cars with sports sus and ones with standard chassis so I presume this was an optional extra you could have, but for the life of me I cant work out which is on the car and I cant find any info to help me tell.

Really can't remember seeing optional sports suspension offered for my 2009 SE, or 2012 and FL2014 Elegance Superbs.

It will be on Pr Code sticker in the boot wheel well

Also what mileage are you at because the shocks are really quite good on the Superbs not like the springs

Also for knocking it will most likely be the front top plates that are worn:rolleyes:

Cheers for the info, Ill double check on there. In the end I spoke to the supplier and they said it was the correct dampers so fingers crossed lol.

Vehicle has done approx 107k now, I've previously changed Front end: drop links, ball joints, wheel bearings, lower arm bushes, discs and pads and top mounts. The top mounts have gone again and when I spoke to a local garage they said it was most likely that the dampers had gone and that has caused the top mounts to go again? (Front springs seem to be OK, no signs of any damage).

Have ordered bilstein b4 front dampers and bilstein top mounts plus new dust cover and bottom out set so hopefully this will sort the knocking as it driving me crazy!!

On the rear I have replaced both rear springs (as one had snapped) and the discs and pads. Once I've got the front sorted I will plan to freshen up the rear.

FYI our 2010 CR170 Elegance has the factory sports suspension. The code is 2UC   SWP   Sports version (suspension = 15mm lower).
