Airbag warning light on - Octavia 1.9TDI 2008

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have the airbag warning light on the dash of my Octavia.

Prior to this the front passenger seat had been moved fully  back, and then into its normal position. Could this have caused the fault, and is it easy to clear the warning light?

Hopefully someone can advise me on this.

Regards

Andy

Highly likely that caused and easy to turn off with the right equipment. You need to find some one local to you with VCDS, there's a list of people on this site somewhere.

@blacka013 - OK, I can't be certain without fault codes, but I suspect you've loosened the secondary restraint system (SRS) connector for the passenger seat by sliding it right back. You'll need a cde reader to confirm this, and, if I'm right, after tightening up the connect, clear the airbag fault code, when the light should go off.

looking through the service history of my Octavia it had been plagued with this problem from new and the garages had relieved the first owner of thousands in total for diagnostics, resets several times a year even for replacing both drivers and passengers airbags which 100% was never done

My temporary fix of removing the connector and replacing with Wago 222 wiring connectors has so far been trouble free and will probably remain permanant.

I would strap the 2 halves of the connector together with a tywrap and if there are further problems remove it and make a soldered joint.

Rear seat passengers stretching their legs can also cause the fault code.

Thanks for all the assistance.

Checked the connector under the seat and it is nice and tight.

I contacted member ACSC who lives not far from me, and he came round and cleared all the fault codes. A run of 30 miles today and no reoccurrence of the problem.

Thanks ACSC for the help, much appreciated.

Regards
