Gearbox oil

Hello. Sorry if this has been covered before but I have been looking for the gearbox oil capacity without success. The car is a 2010 fabia 2  1.9tdi PD with the 5 speed manual box. Can anyone help me with this. I have 1.9 litres  stuck in my mind, but I have no idea where I got this figure from. The car has recently had a new clutch fitted under warranty, and I need to satisfy myself that the box has been filled with the correct oil and the correct quantity.

I don't think the gearbox oil is classed as a routine change but that does not mean it cannot leak and/or need changing... I think I am sure in saying the clutch fluid should have been checked and either changed or topped up, when changing the clutch. The clutch fluid on these is combined with the brake fluid so it may get left unchanged.

Most manual gearboxes have a filling plug on the side and you just fill to the level of the hole.

2.0litres SAE 75W-90 synthetic

 

The gearbox oil is not touched or drained during a clutch change.

 

The clutch fluid is actually brake fluid, fed directly from the brake hydraulic reservoir.

But surely the gearbox is removed so drive shafts would also be removed and even if the gearbox oil wasn't drained, a certain amount would come out of the diff unit. I have been out of the trade for a long time, but that always used to be the case, but maybe its different these days.

Drive shafts are disconnected at the inner CV flanges surely. The gearbox final drive is not opened.

 

Anyway, all you need to know, is remove the filler plug on side of box, if oil is not at level of this plug, (use finger to check), top up with synthetic 75w/90 EP gear oil until it starts dribbling out. Refit plug.

 

Or course car has to be level, so on a ramp or 4 poster.
