A con would certainly be Skoda voiding your warranty id expect.

Also is it not illegal?

dont quote me on this but yes it does work and no its not illegial........as long as you inform the government and pay tax on it...i dont think you can run pure vege oil. one of my delivery men does it and it works out alot cheaper for him....

Not sure if the pdi engine would like it or your neighbours, a scrappers van passed me the other morning and I got a fantastic whiff of Fish and Chips, it was 8.00 am

I'd worry about the fine (much higher than other diesels) pressure that the PD injectors run at. I think it would not be good for the fuel pump and the fuel filter would need changing every 5000 miles or so.

IIRC - one of the items in the service schedule is a more frequent fuel filter replacement "for vehicles in biofuel operation" (or words to that effect)

Mind you, I think it may also say that that only applies to certain models...

I was just wondering' date=' has any one tried running their car on vegetable oil. You know of the Sainsbury's veriety?

The reason I ask is that it came up in conversation with a colleague, he mentioned that it was "a known fact that a diesel will run on veggy oil" and as this was the first time I had heard mention of it, I was to say the least a little skeptical :( anyone got any experience of this? The Pro's and cons for example.

Look forward to any info.[/quote']

Diesels; yes! Modern diesels with common rail or PD... Probably not. At the end of the day, the engine is going to be able to burn the oil as fuel. The issues are likely to be lubrication of pumps and injectors and earlier replacement of fuel filters etc.

A mix of diesel and veg. oil *MAY* work.

If you do a search there was a long thread at least 9 months ago about this.

There were many requests from Shifty about his USED cooking oil/lard. :D

The consensus was that it can be used BUT it needs to be slighly refined +some additives.

Also I believe you have to pay Duty, which I believe works out to around 7-10p per litre ( last time i heard)

PD engines run perfectly on supermarket veg oil - only when hot though. So you need two different fuel tanks a small one for regular diesel and a large one for veg oil. You drive the first few miles on regular diesel to warm the engine up then switch to veg oil. A few minutes before you stop you have to switch back to regular diesel to flush any veg oil through so it's not left in the engine cold for the next time you start.

Yep. Twin tank systems have a good success rate. Though I havn't dared to do it myself (havn't got
