SE seems quite a price jump for basically just fogs and cruise.

SEL Is £1800 for stuff that doesn't necessarily improve the car - bigger wheels, nav, climate, keyless.

I expect the S to sell well.

Agree, I would be inclined to pick lower spec and add one or two options, as an example S spec with rear parking sensors would be fine for me.

Obviously until detailed price list comes out, don’t know how much (or if combination exits).  But agree SEL has features I wouldn’t choose

?

What are those prices about,  The spec of a 1.0 TSI Manual?

Hopefully there will be options, unlike SEAT policy of forcing you to buy a certain fixed spec model to get the kit you want.

I'm keeping a keen eye on the Scala developments. Will be looking to size-up from a Fabia next year. Having driven an Audi with the virtual cockpit, this is a feature I'm keen to have on my next car. The SE L has some options that don't really bother me, but let's see how things shake out over the next year...

SEL 1.5 DSG as a minimum. Plus extras

It’s still on the short list to replace Octavia in October.

I imagine fixed specifications will be much more common with wltp and rde.

Just been in the configurator and I’m surprised how many things in the Scala are optional - even with SE-L spec. I’ve managed to spec one up with nothing particularly glamorous and it’s come out at £26k plus, comparable to an equivalent Golf. An equivalent Mazda 3 (new shape) is also about £500 cheaper and comes with all the safety systems you could imagine as standard across the range. Curtain and knee airbags are options in the Scala - these are standard fit in even a Fiat 500! Front centre armrest that you see in all the press cars - also an option. So unfortunately it doesn’t look such great value after all.

Quite. My 66 plate se tech spaceback seems a bargain!

Ditto.

I was shocked to find how expensive an SEL with a few extras turned out.

Scala is/was on the short list to replace our Octavia in October, but I think I'll have to think again.  Just seems a bit OTT now.
