I've been told my camshaft has gone. This is including parts, labour and VAT. Is this too expensive?

Who has told you the camshaft needs replacing? Is it a main dealer or a trusted garage and how did they find out?

Also do you have a detailed list of all the parts to be used and the amount of labour to be charged?

A garage I have used previously twice before for relatively big jobs. I'm not sure how they know that it's the camshaft, should I have major symptoms? Car shudders a lot when I accelerate. Sounds like it's misfiring on idle as well...

 

It's hard to give advice when you don't state what engine you have...
