Its soon mine....what modifications and additions are recommended

Featured Replies

So, I've got a 2017 sportline estate which is on a 2yr lease, this comes to an end in may and VWFS have agreed to sell me the vehicle.

As its going to be mine and not belong to the lease company i'm wondering if there are any mods or additions that are recommended, I'm considering a remap as it could do with a little more oomph (its a 150 tdi manual) and shall be changing the bulbs in the front fogs for some that match the colour of the headlights.

Are there any things that can be done that you would recommend?

Swap a v8 in it? Just kidding.

Remap definitely. Best bang for buck mod there is.

Have a look at this thread to see the stuff that can be done on your car with VCDS.

This thread gives a list / map of VCDS experts who will help or apply the mods for you in return for beer vouchers.

I've only done the traction control (XDS strong), High Beam Assist and High Beam Memory personally. All work well. Obviously you will have to consider any warranty impacts for re-map etc. Some have reported good results with pedal boxes as an alternative but I haven't gone down that road so can't comment. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing to it.

Remap most defo and if you get it done by a reputable company you won’t have to worry about warrantee issues. I’ve had all of my vehicles for at least 130k miles, all mapped properly and never had and longevity issues. Just keep it looked after and we’ll serviced. I had a vrs ovtavia that was mapped. Traded it I. With 120k miles on and it’s never even has so much had clutch replaced. Or any engine/gearbox components fail. traded that for my current 190 4x4 dsg that I’ve just had mapped. It’s much better

Great advice and mirrors my own experience of remaps (but with fewer miles).  I'd say that mechanical sympathy is key and if you're the type of driver who lacks it then you will have component issues with or without the presence of a remap...but a remap will likely make any issues become more apparent or perhaps accelerate their onset.

Granted some cars don't tune very well without some key component upgrades or renewed parts but a reputable tuner should advise you of this beforehand and at least conduct a health check on your car.

Is it a diesel or a petrol?  If diesel then maybe worth looking at DTUK (or whatever they're now known as).  I've not used them personally, but I've ready many reports that their systems are awesome!

I've also not had any of the VCDS mods done (yet) but, from what I've seen, some are well worth doing - as an option, cost hundreds, but cost almost nothing if you ask someone nicely.  Personally, I'd like Traffic Sign Recognition - and that's about it for me I think...maybe one day I'll find someone close to me to do it, but that day isn't yet (I don't think).  Each to their own.

Good luck in whatever you choose, and let us know how you get on.

Its done just under 40k entirely under my ownership and ive only ever had one fault with a water pump so she seems pretty reliable!

I shall look at the diesel tuning options once i get the V5!!

Is it possible to retrofit an OE type towbar system?
