Question for the ADIs on here

Featured Replies

Can you recommend a decent book of teaching techniques for teaching people to drive?

I've looked at the The Official DSA Guide for Approved Driving Instructors, but what I'm looking for is something with lesson plans and techniques.

No, I'm not becoming an ADI, I'm taking the Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction and want to do some preparation beforehand. Got a few months as I want to do the Driver Assessor's Course first.

well, I'm ORDIT registered (official register of driving instructor trainers) and I train ADI's (for a company called passmasters) as well as learners, and passmasters have their own guides, but they are set up for the ADI exam. I personally encorage my PDI's to make their own lesson plans, the DSA isn't interested in seeing me turn out driving instructors who are a clone of myself, they like them to have their own initiative and personallity, so I don't copy lesson plans for them, but make them do their own, then tell them if they are ok, and what they could do to improve them....

note: just realised I'm not really answering your question lol.... so go here, maybe some of their resourse materials may help you! http://www.driving.org/products.html?catagory=RESOURCE%20MATERIAL

Thanks for that

Yep, slightly different for me. I have a particular need that is slightly different from the teaching a learner to drive (although my 7 year old is coming along well :D ). Just wanted to see what sort of plans there were and how to structure lessons (although as said my lessons would be slightly different).

If you're comming to the next cat'n'fiddle meet, have a chat with me, and I may be able to help you, tell me exactly what it is you'll be doing, and I'll help you plan a little.... don't how long that conversation will continue before being turned to talking about fast skodas though! lol....

When I asked about advanced driving this time last year, the books 'Roadcraft' and also Paul Ripleys 'Expert Driving' were recommended. I guess you'll know of these, though

Best wishes
