Timing chain... yup.. another one

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m a newbie here with what appears to be an old regular problem with the Fabia TSi 1.2 automatic

First of all its my sons car but he’s a student so I’m the royal bank of dad as far as repairs are concerned.

Ok, so.. he has a 1.2 auto 2011 fabia TSi. He called me the other day to say it “stalled”? But it’s an auto? They can’t stall?

anyway, he took it to a garage literally around the corner who have had a look at it and advised it’s the timing chain, they said they didn’t really want to touch it as it needs a specialist to look at it really. They said it was “too slack”

we’ve had it over 12 months so the warranty it came with has since expired.

My concern Is I thought a timing chain was pretty much a lifetime part (I may be wrong) however, it may be 8 years old but it’s only done 68k which seems really low for such an integral part to go?

hes been told not to drive it an inch which sounds fair, can anyone offer any guidance on this or what else he would have noticed if this is the problem. He’s said it was quite instant.

many thanks

Welcome to the forum.

A Mod might move your post to the Fabia Mk2 section.

There are threads there on the same issue you have. Many threads.  Ones in the last couple of weeks.

There is a Timing Chain Upgrade Kit for your car. There were faulty ones until upgraded in 2012.
