Help with Engine Management light

Featured Replies

Bit of a strange one!

Had my car serviced by Awesome GTI in Manchester yesterday all good no issues.

Nice weather today so thought I would swap the wheels from winter to summer.

Did my usual wheel swap routine and then went to move the car at the end and the EML light is on.

Not had the engine management light on in my 8 months of ownership.

Checked the oil level and it appeared a bit high to me so was wondering if by me jacking it up could this have activated a sensor  to bring the light on?

Phoned Awesome GTI and they said bring it in to read the code which I have booked in for Monday afternoon.

I didn’t knock anything whilst changing the wheels over so was just wondering if there was anything you guys might suggest?

Disconnect the battery for 30 mins then reconnect and see if the code has gone?

i will post a picture of the oil level cold shortly and see what you think?

Thanks,

Chunk

Can only think it was something that jacking it up has caused or aggravated?

The light wasn’t on after the service or during the 30 mile drive home.

?

What code was there that was then gone, or do you mean the light went out?

?

Was the car sitting ticking over for a long time causing the EML 'Exhaust Emissions Control' light to come on?

Is the oil overfilled or not?

?

Where is it with the engine / oil cold.  Top of crosshatch, or above, or far above?

?

What servicing was done, were the spark plugs replaced, & what about the Air Filter?

Full service including the spark plugs/air filter. The car runs fine and the engine management light was not on when I drove the car back or before I changed the wheels over.

The car was not idling for a long period of time I moved it on my drive. Changed all 4 wheels over then went to move it and the EML was on.

Cold the oil level is just above the cross hatched area.

Hope this helps.

Sorry reading my post above to clarify the engine/ignition was off whilst I changed the wheels over.

Hopefully all OK now.

If they have the correct plugs and correct gap and the 'o'rings sealing and the pipes on there should be no problem,

and it was not the EPC light, so likely no misfires logged.

Maybe just sooted up from a stop start, i have had that with various twinchargers when working on them and just moving them.

Oil sounds fine.   Check it after at least 10 miles driving when up to temp, and parked on the flat a few minutes.

??????

What spark plugs did they fit?

They fitted Bosch spark plugs.

The car sounds/drives perfect as per normal so not too sure what’s happened.

Will wait till Monday to see what code/codes are displayed.

Thanks

Just taken it for a quick drive and from parking it up on the drive and listening in the engine bay with it running there appears to be a hissing noise coming from the rear of the engine bay?

Don’t remember the noise being there before. Sounds like air leaking of from somewhere.

'Tom Jones'#   "It is not unusual",  when someone changes the spark plugs.

See pinned spark plug thread at top of page.  a post this week.

Yes had a read through the thread so suspect it may be

Will update Monday.

Make sure that you ignore your own suggestion to disconnect the battery as not will wipe stored faults.

I have never found that removing the battery of a MK2 Fabia vRS cleared logged 'Fault Codes' such as 'Misfires' or others.

Not that 'Misfires' do log if there is Misfires or Engine Management or ECP lights unless enough misfires in a cycle.

Right early update I took it over to the garage this morning and it was a loose breather hose!

Not sure which hose or why but it is now sorted free of charge.

Oh and I checked the oil level again this morning and it is dead on the top of the cross hatching.

It was a good 30 miles home and touch wood all appears well.

OK, not an EMS or CEL light, but yesterday, on my way to work I used the windscreen washers and the low washer fluid light came on. I did nothing about it when at work (~1l should be enough for 11 miles I think), but 2 miles into the trip home it went out.

I did actually put in 4l of a 3 to water - washer fluid mix when I got home.

^^^ Nothing to do with someone messing up servicing a car when replacing spark plugs by not putting bits back were they moved them from  was it.

That’s what I was hoping to be fair :-)

Occasionally someone here says they do their own plugs then have the issue.

Unreal over the past 8 years how many pay someplace to do the job and they co-ck it up.

All the gear and just a bit bl00dy careless.

@Skoffski

Typo corrected. Also, the base point is that warning lights sometimes come on and/or go out for no adequately explored reason. OK?

Yes, a couple of terminals in a liquid.

Just a bit different from the OP's issue where there was actually a correct Warning Light.
