Climatronic, no cold air from lower vents

Featured Replies

Maybe its designed to be this way?

If I set the aircon to low then cold air comes out the upper facia vents and the ons in the storage box for the rear seat passengers but not from the foot level vents.

If I set it to heating it comes out of both but the majority from the lower vents.

Are they all like that?

Manual or climatronic?

Did you try to reset the flaps? (if climatronic)

Climatronic (the clue is in the title!) regularly punished with flapaerobics!

Just had a thought so been out and done some testing, the Climatronic probably knows what it is doing and directs the cold air to the face where most want or need it, cold air sinks etc.

I realised that when you set the temp to "LO" its reverts to manual and all I needed to do was push the button to direct the flow to the lower vent, if I wanted it at say 17°c then push the "AUTO" button then the lower vent button.

So unless someone tells me different its probably how it should be, cool air to the face, I needed it on my feet this morning after a 20K training run!!!

Now I know how to do it and it may help someone else.

Another question regarding the "AUTO" and "ECON" switches, I have always thought that "AUTO" allowed the Climatronic to make all the decisions, fan speed, flaps, aircon etc and switching to "ECON" does not use the aircon compressor and allows you to select fan speed, air direction etc.

Last night I found that you can have both the "AUTO" and "ECON" functions selected at the same time, both leds lit, what is this supposed to do?

Afaik the AUTO does allow climatronic to make all decisions indeed. ECON only applies to the aircon compressor.

With sufficient cold air outside, the AUTO can still work properly, by adjusting the amount of outside air together with the heated air from the engine. However, it is limited by the available cold air outside. (since the aircon is not running)

so if the ambient temperature is too high, the set temp can't be reached. With the ECON disabled, the aircon compressor will help to reduce the cold air temperature, so it can maintain the temperature better (also when the outside air is too hot)

So yes, you can have both auto and econ running simultaniously.

No aircon compressor (but running the fans on outside air at a higher rate) will result in a better mpg, hence the name 'economy'.

But depending on the weather, you might be better of without econ (since the ac will help you to defog the windscreen faster)
