4x4 Octavia- Is this noise rear diff ? 30 -70 mph

Featured Replies

Just trying to track down the cause of this noise...

12  months back, I Had rear diff and haldex removed, cleaned out, new filters, diff shimmed and rebuilt and fresh oil etc. All done by decent gearbox specials.

Slowly over the last few months this noise has been building....

I'm wondering if it is the diff or perhaps rear driveshafts...

No change on cornering, also had a full set of new tyres with no change in sound.

Changed oil last week to see if it would help, no change..

any ideas, help.

Cheers

Yeah, could be. Check the inside edges of the rear tyres for sawtoothing.

We had that years ago, sounded like a wheel bearing was gone.

Had the car up on a ramp...think this is a bearing?? What are your thoughts to this sound..no noticable wobble when checking for play.

...hopefully just wheel bearing.

cheers

Thinking the offside rear (start of the vid ) sounds bad.

Maybe not a big job to change wheel bearing as I think it is a kit..
