DPF Help please

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 2012 Fabia 1.6tdi CR Elegance with 55k on the clock. I did a straight swap with a dealer for my old car just a couple of days ago .

Since then I have just done aprox 50 miles on mainly short journeys of 6/8 miles ,now I know diesels like a good run as I still have a BMW 120d however I am aware that you need to do some kind of regen when the light comes on but at the moment I don't have time to spend a couple of hours on the motorway ,I will however on Friday as I was planning  a good 500 mile round trip down south ..My dilemma is this was this the reason previous owner got rid and just take it back and say I am not happy (confident) in the car if so how does that work as no cash past hands. Or do I gamble and see what it's like after weekend run but as anything else seeing lights on the dash just wind me up ..

I suppose worst case would be new DPF fitted under warranty if that allows ..Any help tips help or advice would be appreciated.Thanks

Are you sure it's a DPF fault? What lights have come on? Has the car lost power at all?

I had EGR/DPF faults with my 11 plate 1.6TDI Fabia despite it doing a good 60 miles on the motorway everyday. Skoda replaced the EGR valve and did a forced regeneration of the DPF.

Hi I am getting just the DPF symbol at the moment ,car is running fine ..I don't know the full history of the car over the last few months but It appears according to tax records that it as not been on the road since Dec 18 and at 55k surely the dpf should be fine..I am going to see if I can get on a motorway in the next few hours to give it a run ..I have had EGR issues in the past and I can normally take those out myself and decoke if they are easy to get to. Looking at previous owners mileage and with it being stood I am hoping a good run is what it needs but as I don't really want to be hoping it does as said just purchased...

I believe quite a few people have had issues regarding the software update with some wishing they never had it done..

@mickeymilo

Are you checking the VIN checker to see if yours has been done?

& has it been done?

No , it just says that my engine is one affected so I presume it as not been done

Good, best avoided.

Once the DPF light goes out, the extra miles are almost redundant. It will help keep it clean but it won't burn off more once the regen is finished. You can drive hundreds of miles and then do a number of short journeys and it may well come on again. Usually after a short, ten or fifteen min run at around 50mph, in 4th, it will go out again and the stop regen process.

Might be great if you can hit say 70mph, for the time the light is on but once out, it runs normally.  Just be sure to do the run as soon as possible, when the light comes on.
