Hi, I am considering buying a 15k mile as described, are there any problems with this model that I should be aware off ?

Any helpful comments appreciated,

Mike

Enjoying 6 years of trouble free 31k of motoring. That engine was well sorted at the end of its run. No other problems and never replaced a bulb yet!

Hi ebostan, thanks for that comforting reply, the vehicle drives like new, it is an ex motability car and is spotless so I reckon I'll bring it into my stable.

We bought two ex-motability cars in 2003. We still run the Vauxhall Corsa to this day but p/x the Fiat Multipla for the Roomster after 10 years. Motability cars are maintained strictly to the rules and supplied with full service history and more. Good buys

I have decided to purchase the Roomster, it is an ex mobility car and looks like it has been very well looked after, it will serve as our 3rd car for local trips on our abysmal roads and save our primary cars. I've had 6 Skodas up to recent and all have served us well, so I am looking forward to my forward to my first Roomster

Was it a Motability lease 2014-2017, or was it one that was on lease for 5 years?

If a Motability car has done under 15,000 miles @ 3 year old the person leasing can apply to keep the car another 1 or 2 years.

These can be very good cars to get if they were looked after and serviced annually with the low miles.

ie, oil and filter changes on 'Fixed Servicing', so Minor and Major and Brake Fluid change at 3 years, twice pollen filters etc.

Spark Plugs and Air Filter at 2nd Major Service. If done to Manufacturers Guidelines.

Small point on Motability Servicing, as i have had 11 cars through motability, and bought and sold others.

If there is Variable Servicing available then that is what they get.

There is nothing special about how a dealer treats them, or how many drivers a car has had over the 3 years of a lease, then off to auction and then at a dealers to be sold.

They are MOT'd a month or so before 3 years old though. Should have good tyres on.

You would not want to buy my SEAT Motability car that was due to be handed back in November but is going in early and will be off to auction.

First Oil change was at near 20,000 miles, oil was like clotted cream, advisory was for tyre tracking to be done at Kwikfit who refused to do or change the tyres,

i never bothered arguing,

so back on went my own Winter tyres and wheels.

I have an 1.2Tsi 77kw since July 1st 2010. Now having 141.000 Km on clock and covering about 2.000 km per month both in B roads and city commuting. Yesterday I covered 280 Km using 15.5 Ltr of petrol in an average speed of 75k/h, so not driving fast, but as petrol prices went sky high that does not bothers me.

So after nine years of daily motoring I had once the timing chain replaced (due to early factory erratic one), and once the water pump at nearly 120.000Km. I have replaced twice the PCV (ventil valve) which is dead cheap, and I had to clean one time the MAP sensors as sludge in one of them was affecting turbo (that was  free of charge from my mechanic) and I had to resolder twice the wires in the bellow of A pillar as locking mechanism was playing up (first time in a dealership at a cost of 20 euros and then in an independent car electrician for 10 euros). Since new she tends to consume 0.5lt of 5w-30 oil every 6500 to 10000Km, so not a problem as my brother's 1.6Tdi Seat Toledo does the same.

Those were my "major" issues. All services done due time or even before their deadline thus I am not writing about spark plugs, all kind of filters etc.

I have never changed the battery, nor the brake pads, nor the brake disks, nor the brake fluid, nor the clutch nor the exhaust nor the springs and the shock absorbers.

Overall a very decent car. More than decent.

Hi Roottootemoot,

Thanks for the headsup.

I believe my engine is the 105bhp, I don't know if this service plan is for the 105, however I will ask as it will be going in for a 25k service in the next couple of weeks.

So far it has been a fantastic vehicle, a bit thirsty perhaps but otherwise superb, carries all  my bee hives, fishing tackle, garden rubbish to the dump and does shopping duties with ease. Why did I not get one earlier, even my wife likes it !!

Just an update. Last week returned from a continental road trip of 2000 miles from UK visiting France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and Belgium. Now on 36k and no problems. The only annoying fix is the resistor where speed 1 on the cabin fan has packed up. To replace the part the top glove box and airbag has to be removed. I will leave that to dealer.

@edbostan

Does your car have one of the engines that is part of the recall action '15h4' ?

According to the dealer from whom I purchased the car new:  No

What about according to the SKODA vin checker?  The thing is I have not yet heard of anyone having this service campaign work, yet plenty of cars with the particular engine that should have the precationery recall action.

I could not use it yesterday as it is temporarily out of order that was why I spoke to the dealer. Another article I read it also effects the 1.6mpi engine but that is old. Also belt tensioner are mentioned but mine is a chain engine. Roomsters are also not listed

As with any engine, I would not run the long life approach of 30000km per interval. Half that, and I think you get a solid car. :)

If you do short runs the ECU takes it into account how the car is driven and shortens the servicing interval correspondingly. On variable servicing I get the spanner long before the 2 years or 18500 miles.
