Clutch Pedal Issues

Featured Replies

Hello,

The clutch pedal on our 2.0L diesel superb (2010) has suddenly started misbehaving. The pedal will go perhaps 2/3rds of the way to the floor before you feel any resistance. When you remove your foot, the pedal remains depressed, and requires pulling up with the toe.

I’ve seen various posts relating to master / slave cylinder replacement and bleeding, but I’m struggling to find any posts with the same symtoms as above.

Possibly relevant, but the brakes have felt a little weak recently when pressing more urgently.

Any thoughts welcome - thanks in advance!

It does sound like the slave cylinder is gone.  It's located in the bell housing. £25 for the part. A lot of labor to get it changed.

Sounds like concentric slave cylinder, I had the same with mine just before Christmas.  Pedal went to the floor and didn't return, complete failure.  Had to get recovered to the dealer as it was going nowhere.  Hefty £800 bill for new cylinder and clutch and the car was repaired 3 days later.....  Not helped with additional labour required to strip down the 4x4 drivetrain...

In the weeks leading up to the failure I noticed the clutch was slightly grabbing when pulling away, I now realise this was fluid contamination on the clutch due to the leaking cylinder seal.  When it was recovered there was a trail of fluid on the driveway....looked like the poor car was bleeding out.......but of course the only thing that was bled was my bank balance!!!  Don't leave it too long and hope you get it sorted, a new clutch would be a good plan while its stripped for repair.

Check for brake/clutch fluid dripping from the bell housing - an indication that the slave cylinder has failed - If this is the case the it's defo a gearbox off job.

If no sign of fluid check the master cylinder next (it's a much cheaper job) before gefore having the gearbox removed.
