Anyone got a PbA VW7615V 8" Android 8.1? How's the fit?

Featured Replies

HI All, New to my Skoda Superb Mk2 and not really loving the RNS 510 head unit. It's slow and I'd rather have access to the Android ecosystem. Is anyone familiar with the PbA VW7615V unit from AudioTechDirect? Link here:

I'm going to be adding the DAB to it but my main concern is if it will fit with the existing fascia or am I going to need the £50 replacement from AudioTechDirect? The measurements on the replacement unit seem slightly larger than I measure the RNS 510 at. Mine seems to measure at 218mm wide at the top and 122mm height. The replacement unit measures at 220mm x 130mm. Close but no cigar. That being said, I know from experience that some things can be "jimmied" and some can't so I thought I'd ask the wise minds here if they had any experience with this unit going in to a 2013 Superb Mk2.

If anyone has any advice on any other bits I'll need (Fakra adaptors?) it will be most gratefully received.

I'm a tight old git and would rather save the £50 if I can!

Thanks in advance.

There are two sized headunits, the one you've linked looks to match a RNS-510/Columbus so the facia should be fine. The alternative size is much wider. Given it's designed for a VW/Skoda, I'd expect it to have the fakra adaptor included.

No idea if the headunit is any good. Personally, I'm not convinced that Android is actually the right choice for a headunit operating system. I'm not aware of any OEM headunit running on Android and I expect the only reason it's used is down to cost.

Be interesting to see how you get on if you do buy it :)

Thanks for the info. Starting to find unsettling reviews of these devices now so may have to rethink.

Oh no, don't say that. I'm on the verge of buying PbA 9" unit from Audiotechdirect

If you want the same unit for a lot less money take a look at the erisin website. The £250 unit I'm looking at on autotechdirect is £180 on the erisin site...

Ok thanks, I'll have a look today. That £70 difference would cover the DAB unit and rear camera adaptor I want. Can I ask what the negative reviews were saying or where you found them

Wow, that's it then, I think I'll be sticking with the Columbus. Not good reading at all. Thanks for the links

No problem, sorry to disappoint you, I know I was drooling over the specs and capabilities. I was gutted after realising it was one of those too good to be true scenarios. I've looked for more reputable models but the likes of Pioneer want just short of a grand and I'm not that desperate!
