How-to tell what Infotainment system I have?

Featured Replies

I have a 14 plate VRs. How can I tell what infotainment system is installed?

It's the small screen, without Nav, but has bluetooth and phone connectivity.

Like many others I'm looking to upgrade the system but my reason is to help improve the resale value.

Many thanks!

Sound like you might have the bolero MIB1 system.  I have a spare mib1 Amundsen if you decide on that.  Very similar but with nav and a slightly bigger screen.  Although its a fair bit of work for added value to sell on.  Only really worthwhile upgrading if you want the added features yourself.  Probably in excess of £200 in labour, coding and extras (gps antenna, etc) on top of the cost of the system.  Will you be adding £4-500 to the value of the car?....

Thanks MarkyG82, is there a definitive way to check, perhaps codes on the unit in the menues, or physically written on the hardware?

I see what you're saying about it perhaps being cost prohibitive. For now just trying to workout what I have and what's the shortest/quickest route to getting built-in satnav. I'm fairly hands on and technically minded (work in IT) so confident I can fit it myself.
Don't suppose you know of any guides anywhere?

You can go to the settings and check the part number but if it’s a 2014 UK car and it has no nav it’s 100% a MIB1 Bolero. There is little point in changing the radio to benefit the resale value, not for an OEM one anyway. The only value it adds is the cost of the install, if at all in some cases. It’ll be a bit more desirable though. It’s a bit of a faff having an unlocked unit installed if you aren’t a tech person (and if you’re selling it, then it’s likely to be bought by someone who doesn’t understand the ins and outs of these radios), it’s a challenging concept to understand that you should take the radio out of the car every time it has to go to Skoda for example to ensure they don’t mess with the CP errors. Fitting and making it work involves £1000’s of pounds of equipment and a lot of experience coding VAG cars so you’ll probably be fitting it like the rest of us do and outsourcing the coding work and just doing the physical fitting which is very easy.

If you really want to do it, get a MIB2 with SmartLink and a big screen for best impact, budget about £600-700 to do it right but I don’t expect it to add that much. It’ll probably sell quicker though. Alternatively, if you are selling it anyway, an Android unit. I don’t really rate them myself but maybe worth a go as the car is for sale. It’s a much lower investment

Was half way through writing a reply. Got distracted, went to the shop, bathed the boy and come back to find Sasha's message which is what I was going to say but in much better English. Considering she's in Wales..... 🤣

So basically, don't do it to add value as it costs more than you'll get back. If keeping the car it's well worth the swap up to mib2 for Android auto and carplay.

Haha yes, English is not my first language, nor is it my second in fact. I didn’t really start to learn English until I went to school :)
